Google play store can't run on a TV not running android as far as I'm aware. The TV won't run android apps.

Which Powercity store? Did you ask for Android tv or just smart tv?

Doesn't mention Android or Play in the description - good luck with the excuse for returning it.
Should they refuse buy a cheap tv box.

Smart TV just means it can play movies from external storage devices, will have some apps like Netflix and YouTube, most will have a casting feature.

Android TV is like having an android box installed in the TV.

LG WebOS is far far superior and more responsive than the crippled Sony Android TVs.

Customer: I'd like to buy a smart TV
Salesperson: yippee, we've got another live one here!!

Smart TV is the latest buzz word. Having a smart TV means for are at the mercy of the TV manufacturer for app updates. You are always better to ignore it and just buy the TV with the picture quality you are happy with and add an external box like a MiBox or Shield that has decent horsepower and gets support and updates.

Your best best to buy an external device running Android TV, like a Mii box or Shield.

streaming apk's not sure if im allowed to mention them.....

I doubt PowerCity will entertain your reason for returning. LG's WebOS is far superior to embedded Android.

Is a fire stick good enough for glitch free IPTV though?

I would’ve thought it would be pretty hard to buy a non smart tv nowadays. More likely the salesperson is thinking “yippee, now I can try and sell a €90 HDMI cable or €200 wall bracket”

If you are looking for smart IPTV app it is available for LG OS AFAIK...

And don't forget the "extended" 2 year warranty that EU consumer law covers the product for anyway :D

It’s not something that can be spoken about in too much detail on boards so google is your best bet

I would be looking at adding an ethernet port to it or a wired alternative to be honest.

Yep big time, wireless IPTV is asking for trouble imo

Ye definitely, just type fire stick & IPTV into Google and you will see it's capabilities.

I have and I've seen nothing but complaints for fire TV sticks. My attitude is if you're going to do IPTV get a wired device or one with usb so you can add an Ethernet adapter, it's one less variable to deal with

I'd would have agreed with you but I'm happily running my Sony android tv now for a year. All the apps I need are on it, including kodi, plex, STB emulators etc

There's a lot to be said for have just the one remote control too

Google assistant working too, wireless keyboard and Chrome, with a built in Chrome cast and 4 K Netflix.

BTW I don't play many android games on my TV, just PS4. That might be a deal breaker for some wrt Sony android TV power. Although the PS4 controller pairs very well, I haven't pushed gameplay

Sony are great with updates too. I've been getting decent updates regularly enough

Not a firestick fan either. I found fire TV to be far superior and well worth the extra money.

They are a great way to add a casting function to an older TV though. A cheap but limited upgrade.

Huge fan of the fire stick, used various one over the last few years, currently using 2 at home one for IPTV since July no issues and the other in the attic using kodi and some other apps, picking up my WiFi from the front room. they are reasonably cheap, no real problem updating with the newer version each year.

picking up the G4 one on Saturday looking forward to setting it up

Wireless is a shared medium and half duplex, ie your wireless router will only send or receive packets from or to one device at a time. Having a static device demanding a continuous few Mbit is not ideal and could have drastic effects on the quality of wireless for other devices. Likewise having a smartphone demanding a few Mbit to stream YouTube or Netflix videos could cause problems for the Fire stick.
