Shooting without Permission

    It happens.

That is not condoning it, but without any data as to the extent of it we can only go by what is "reported" via word of mouth or the few articles we see in the papers or other media.

Some trespass, while not making it right, is accidental, some is right of way, and then there is the "i know, but don't care" trespass. For accidental a word in the ear of the shooter or gun club will resolve it. For right of way (walkers) you don't have much room for wiggle, but then again i doubt walkers are the cause of farmers consternation.

For the purpose trespass ones, well these are the are problem ones. Signs and talking to shooters/gun clubs won't solve this as it's an intentional act. Barring the farmer has some sort of security its almost impossible to stop, but can be tackled.

Get good lads or a respectable gun club on your land. No one will police the land better than those with permission to be on it a we all guard out shooting lands very well. There is also the onus of the land owner to be forceful. Not in actions towards the trespasser, but in follow up, legal, actions when someone is caught. Unless those responsible for the trespass are punished they will continue to act with impunity.

It is very common on some lands especially those close to large urban areas.
Some Gun clubs are oversubscribed, with long waiting lists.
In many such areas lads then just go out on farmers lands anyway.

She missed one pertinent point in this too. "Sporting rights".While very archaic and an odd one. There are cases where land was sold but sporting rights were reserved by the sellers of the land 80 or 100 plus years ago. It might have been passed on down to traditional agreement in families in a neighbourhood, where both fammlies knew about this ,and one then sold the land and the sporting rights clause was dropped,or not ,and someones great grandchild finds it and can demand access to shoot or hunt. It's a rare one but can happen.
