I love the reporting on this, "savage beating", "almost lost an eye" "large bruise" since when did they become "horrific injuries ".
Don't get me wrong, any scum who attacks a garda should be locked up, if they would do that to gardi what would they do to you and me, but the hyperbole seems a bit OTT.

I feel for the garda who was assaulted, I was attacked by two scum like that in my own garden last year, broken jaw, four days in hospital, on going issues. But they still walk the streets, the case is due up soon but I can't really see them going away for long (if at all).

Some call for arming the gardi, I would prefer to be allowed to arm myself. not a gun but maybe a taser, pepper spray etc. Those guys had a knife, we had nothing.

Almost lost an eye is horrific.

Have you ever seen someone's eye popped half out. Fuc78ng horrific is the only way when you see that. Wasn't my eye thanks be to fu..

The hyperbole is apt, beating a Guard like that is a serious crime.

Robbing a shop at knife point etc is less serious.

Best of luck 8n the future.

I shouldn't worry, all the fellas that attacked the Guard have done is to bring the heat upon themselves, I expect they will all get a free spin in the back of a van over the next few weeks during which they'll wish they hadn't been born.

I'd doubt that very much, the days of Lugs Branigan style policing are long gone.

I think though, that perhaps if we really really tried and put our heads together....that we could come up with something between 'lalalala it's not that bad' and 'kill em!!! kill em all and let God sort them out!!'

    Hopefully that will happen.

Unfortunately moderate views don't get the headlines.

The hysteria on this post must be a new high.

"Kill them!" "Shoot them!" "Neuter them!" "Forced abortions for all on welfare!"

Well done all! Shining examples of the human race here.

(I've reached a stage where I realize its pointless to offer a counter argument on these threads. Just carry on jerking yourselves off in a frantic frenzy, dreaming of being Robert DeNiro in Taxi Driver, "All the animals come out at night - whores, skunk pussies, buggers, queens, fairies, dopers, junkies, sick, venal. Someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets.")

Most people don't mean wide scale killing of scumbags it's just people expressing their frustration with the feral scum who can basically do what they want without fear of consequences. What do you suggest we do seen as what's happening now is far from working?

Hysteria, no its an elegant solution to an ugly problem. And will save the tax payer a fortune

Genuine question - is there anything we (the people) can do to change the judicial system? So justice is served properly to these kind of dregs of society.

The political class and the judiciary/ Higher and lower solicitors etc etc.. are one in the same. Tribunals and public inquiries are nothing more that a brown envelope/kick back for the sons & daughters in the main parties.

No point in locking these boys up for a long time

Too much money to be made from all the court appearances

Parasites top and bottom feeding off the hard earned money of the law abiding

    It will never change

So you are ok with vicious racists attacks then?

The reason why sentiment is so high because Ireland doesn’t have a functioning justice system. If this kind of attacks saw people jailed for a decent then maybe the sentiment would be lessened.

I personally think very long prison sentences where the prisoners are made get up at stupid o clock every morning to work ALL DAY long doing some monotonous but useful task would solve at least some of the problems Irish society has.

Prisons are a holiday camp. Needs to change big time.

Renua are the only party ho had a strong law and order platform ie minimum sentencing for anyone who attacks gardai fire ambo or hospital staff. caping free legal aid victim biased criminal justice system ,

unfortunately they were also pro life anti gay marriage anti Europe

so a few good ideas mixed in with a lot of crazyness

im not even sure they are still active as a political party any more

    Not good enough ,

All Garda should be given specialist firearm training and every guard should be issued a 9mm firearm

If they got away with the cops baton I hate to think what they'd have gotten away with had he been armed.

East Wall is a sh*thole, I lived there for 7 years and couldn't wait to get out of the kip.

There are plenty of prisons in the US that use their prisoners as slave labour. It doesn't seem to do **** as a deterrent.

At least victims of crime know the perps are being adequately punished though.

There are different schools of thought on what a prison is for. At its simplest, it's punishment (maximise the price of crime) or rehabilitation (minimise recidivism). I haven't read a lot on this, but as I understand it, the people who measure the outcomes think rehabilitation is more effective at reducing crime. It blows for the victims, but heavy-handed policing and criminal justice seems to suck at actually keeping people safe. Put it another way, would you rather have ten people assaulted and satisfied that their assailants (where they were caught) did hard time, or 8 people assaulted and less satisfaction about the outcome? And yeah, I'd rather 0 people assaulted too, but I also want a 0 calorie hamburger and a tree that grows money.

b#llox to rehabilitation some animals just need to be kept out of society for as long as possible as often as possible

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Prisons don't really rehabiliate from what I've seen. The prisoners don't have to do any courses if they don't want to. They're not mandatory. They only do it if they think it it helps them for potential early release in most cases. Most end up coming back. Most have mates in there and they just hang out. Sure jails are probably the best place to meet like minded folks and network and plan future strokes.

someone posted a great idea in here a while back, for each offence add a month.

so by the time you get to 12 offences, the next offence is automatically a year plus whatever for the offence itself. they would soon learn to mend their ways when the convictions pile up.

plus no more of this BS about getting another chance, they had 12/50/100 chances before, let them do time, end of.

Ya but if a scumbag in the US attacked a Police officer he/she would serve serious time probably a decade or two so during that time couldn't attack any other innocent person. These lads if caught will either get a very short sentence or a suspended sentence aka getting off Scot free to carry on their behaviour!
