A senior Metropolitan Police officer who used the phrase "whiter than white" faces losing his job for alleged racism and gross misconduct.

The detective superintendent is said to have made the comment in a briefing to colleagues during which he discussed the need to be faultless and above reproach in carrying out inquiries.

But a complaint was made about his choice of words which was passed to the police watchdog for investigation, according to the Evening Standard.

The highly respected officer has been placed on restricted duties while the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigates and has reportedly been warned the inquiry may take up to 12 months to complete.

He is attached to Scotland Yard’s anti corruption squad, the Directorate of Professional Standards.

    A bit harsh?

I believe the term 'whiter than white' it's a literal word play on the actual colour white being clear and clean, used to imply that something is spotless, clear and clean.

I guess other phrases with word play on colour like 'its not a black or white issue' or 'feeling blue' could be deemed insensitive in some way as well?

"An inquiry concerning another officer's use of the phrase "pale, stale and male" in another force is also said to be in progress."

O tempora o mores :( this is truly a great time to be alive. Gob****es to the left of us and snowflakes (also a racist term?) to the right.

Why dismiss him? Just transfer him to Whitechapel or Blackheath.

It's like living in the twilight zone at this stage.

British Police have gone completely off the wall over the past number of yrs.

As organised crime spirals out of control in big urban areas, plod is busting down doors at 6am to arrest people for making a joke on the internet.

Watch out for 'Operation Offensive Halloween Costume' next month.

You have stabbings out of control in London and people having acid thrown in their face and were is Sadiq Khan putting policing resources? Into policing offence on the internet

Once you start hiring whole departments of SJWs and they embed themselves in an institution like ticks ...then 'policing out of any wrongthinkers' starts to happen an you end up with this sort of mess.

Police resources have been slashed to the bone by the government, not by Sadiq Khan.

I think Khan is a slippery sh*t, but he’s not to blame for the police not having a shilling.

Correct I believe, think it was Daz, no racial connotations implied in that slogans intended use at all, truly a ridiculous world we live in these days.

I think any right-thinking person who isn't a complete lunatic can agree that this thing is absolutely f*cking ridiculous and there's a certain brand of liberal rubbish that has gone too far.

I think it's brilliant. The more extreme these stories are the more obvious it is how daft this extreme left wing ideology is. Keep em coming I say.

It's ridiculous but it's the procedures followed that are especially ridiculous. Someone made a complaint. It's not something I think is right to complain about, the phrase is fine. (maybe there's more, maybe it was "whiter than white....unlike those n***ers". However excepting that something like that happened, I think it's a harmless phrase)

What's horrible here is that it could take 12 months to be resolved. People are always going to complain about something, and everything should be investigated. The police should be fully transparent and above reproach. However it's not hard to investigate something like this. It should be someone made complaint. They establish what he said. Then they judge if it's offensive (it's not) and they move on. Process could be over very quickly.

The complaint is being investigated but he's not facing the sack (yet). The investigation could well find that there was no racism.
“A notice is issued to inform an officer at the earliest opportunity following an allegation and to safeguard their interests. It in no way indicates that misconduct proceedings will take place.”

A completely ridiculous complaint, but the IOPC are probably duty bound to investigate.

As far as I’m concerned this isn’t particularly left-wing. It’s certainly not socialist or rooted in a class analysis. It’s liberalism at the end of the day, albeit swathes of the left have gone daft with this rubbish.

The clown who reported it could just have Googled it first,
Persil used it 100 years ago,
    Shakespeare even used a similar phrase;

Who sees his true-love in her naked bed,
Teaching the sheets a whiter hue than white,
But, when his glutton eye so full hath fed,
His other agents aim at like delight?
Who is so faint, that dare not be so bold
To touch the fire, the weather being cold?
