Has Conor spoke at all since the fight ?

Other than a few blurbs on twitter, I don't believe he has.

No way he's getting a title fight after this either.

Conor called for a rematch a few hours after being soundly beaten...

Give it a few days, weeks and months....will he be so up for it?

I mean dedicated:committed up for it, not just PPV cash up for it...

His lifestyle will always see him struggle against good quality dedicated men, who are as big as him...

If Conor goes away and trains like a demon and lives like a monk I’ll stick a few bob on him....

I just don’t think he is that kind of person..

From everything we know, he is exactly that kind of person, ill be stunned if he is not back better than ever. He is an obsessive individual, this will bother him.

He was that kind of person before the $100m fight with Floyd.

In mma it’s a disgraceful brawl and the sport should be banned in the gaa sure ‘‘twas just a bit of a shemozle :) (I’m mainly a gaa supporter I’m a bandwagoner to mma)

But still this was worse than the end of the fight “brawl”

That's pretty much what he did after the Diaz loss.

It's irrelevant because regardless of what his intentions were, we never got to see what he was going to do because McGregor smacked him. This isn't difficult.
If his intentions were to jump into the fight. Then being prevented from doing something doesn't make those intentions irrelevant. This is basic stuff.

Edit: to be clear, I'm saying intentions are obviously relevant not that Conor is actually a mystic mind reader.

I didnt say strip Khabib, suspension without stripping him from the title is what i suggested (if thats possible) - actually, of course its possible judging by the amount of belts being put on show over the past couple of weeks.

This isnt what i want by the way, this is what i think the UFC would prefer. How do you squeeze every drop out of the McGregor money machine if you're the UFC? It sure doesn't start with an immediate rematch against Khabib you would imagine.
Ok. I get what your meant. Suspend but retains title.
Same question though. How does that keep Conor relevant. He can fight whatever lightweight next whether Khabib is suspended or not.

He did it with Diaz, but that was because he was still trying to be the best and get those fat checks coming in.

He never hid that he's only in it to become rich, now that he's done that it remains to be seen if he can still be as motivated as his early days.

Mods, is it possible to have a seperate aftermath thread, and keep the actual fight talk in here related to 229?

McGregor was totally outclassed. There is a big difference in fighting in the bigger weight class. On his rise to 145 title he fought lads that were all smaller, short and less rangey than him. Maybe Poirier is the only one that is equal in the tale of the tape. He lost his first fight against Diaz as he was the bigger man. Nothing by giant standards as some people would say here and there and he just about won the rematch. Then he went on to fight Alvarez who again is the smaller guy. Then he's back after 2 years to fight Khabib who is a bigger man and he "did f*ckin nothing". If he wants to be king he can go back to 145

Diaz aside, has he ever beaten anyone the same size or bigger than him?

I dont see why Conor would get a rematch for a Title Fight directly considering he was easily beaten and tapped.

Non title fights yeah , but a title fight?

Can I ask as someone with no real knowledge of MMA, what is the general age that is deemed "old" in MMA.

I know it is down to lifestyle, luck with injuries and slightly genetics but in soccer by the time a player who uses their pace as best asset gets past 30 its downhill, is it similar age for MMA fighters?

Even if Conor trains and prepares better than before, can he be as good or better as when he was 26/27?

    But Diaz is not Khabib...

I am talking about absolute dedication.....

Living like a hermit and training like a demon.....

Plus, all the partying and god knows what else still can stay with a person even if they "give it up."

Needs a complete detox and 110 percent revenge mission mentality.

I watched the fight live and watched it back again last night. Even Connors walkout had me nervous, he tried to act like everything was the same but he didn't have that fire in his eyes or the same air if confidence about him.

The fight itself, his footwork and head movement were gone, his punches didn't have the same pop about them. He looked like a poor imitation of his old self. He was totally dominated and the best he can hope for now is a match against Tony to see who gets the next shot at the title. I don't think even that is deserved but Tony might jump at it for the big payday.

Realistically, I think it's money fights against the likes of Silva that Connor should aim for now, see out his contract and retire with a very healthy bank balance.

MMA has lots of guys that are world beaters up to their 40's, MMA also has a lot of steroids though. Most of the best fighters peak in their 30's. A great fighter that went of a cliff at the end of his 20's was Shogun Rua but most improve into their 30's.

    Thank you.

My missus was saying oh they are probably on all sorts of steroids and performance enhancers etc. but I answered by saying no I guess its like soccer where they are tested randomly/continuously.
Do fighters only get tested coming up to a fight or when they are confirmed for a fight or continuously once they are part of the UFC?
I had thought , perhaps naively, that there was rather stringent testing but your commend on steroids is interesting.

Yes was just thinking that this wasnt mentioned. The knee and the gloves grab were particularly low cheating moves. Signs of desperation but he was still completely owned.

Still, indicative of the character of the man to resort to all this over the short space of time.

Yes all fighters are randomly tested all year by USADA. As in all sports, you can be sure there is ways of hiding use. Plenty fighters get caught and get 1 or 2 year bans

The testing is far greater than in nearly every other sport you can think on soccer, boxing etc.

The UFC started using USADA a few years back and have cleaned their side of the sport up well, tests are completely random and fighters must inform USADA where they are at all times. Fighters are now getting caught regularly but loopholes certainly exist and are exploited. Its still a new enough system but I have been impressed by the number and profile of fighters they have caught.

For what its worth McGregor is certainly a clean fighter.

Naive to think that any elite level sport is 'clean' tbh. Football is rife with drug use at the top level despite the testing. There's no way in hell Khabib isn't doped up to his eyeballs, any Russian athlete showing any sort of promise will be in the program from an early age.

Not saying it's just the Russians either, the Spanish are worse..

    Max Holloway maybe?

Maybe yeah but Max was only 22 when he fought Conor. Rake thin.

Just watching the fight again, amazing lack of respect shown by Khabib standing in front of Conor.
