27 yards...Any shotgun should be doing that no problem with slugs.

What brand of slugs should you be using? the 1301 looks good.

The Match notice for the Lough Bo 2018 national has now been posted

Target Shotgun is a term that refers to a number of disciplines, all shot with slug ammunition on paper targets.

Nationally scores are separated into "manual" for pump actions and "semi" for semi auto.

Currently, Nationally graded matches are "Timed & Precision 1", "Multi Target", "Embassy Cup" and "100/200m Target Shotgun". I have no doubt more disciplines will be added, over time.

Internationally, they are administered by the ITSF (International Target Shotgun Federation), of which NASRPC (National Association of Sporting Rifle & Pistol Clubs) is the Irish member.

In terms of firearms, you will need a firearm capable of holding 4 shots in either pump or semi - there has been no request, as yet, for manual (break action)

    Any sights are permitted.

In terms of what are competitive firearms or ammunition - I will have to leave that to the experts.

I can recommend attending the National in Lough Bo (Sligo) at the end of this month (match notice to be published this weekend) where you can see the disciplines shot, talk to some of the competitors and get some advice on how to get started.
Of course, you can shoot a few matches with the tools you already have, or try your hand at their clay layout, while you are there)

There is also a Club match, including Target Shotgun, in MTSC (Limerick) this weekend (www.mtsc.ie) - contact them for more info if planning to attend.
