Think AP will have something to hijack his day!

Alpha Centauri a very short favourite - warranted?

Looks like we may get race on Friday and Saturday so potentially soft ground.

    Champion Stakes (8):
    Addeybb
    Deauville
    Rhododendron
    Roaring Lion
    Saxon Warrior
    Study Of Man
    Verbal Dexterity
    Athena

Good to see the French horse in there but looks to be lacking a lot in depth compared to last few renewals

    Matron (7):
    Alpha Centauri
    Clemmie
    Dan's Dream
    Happily
    Laurens
    Lightening Quick
    Magical

Interesting that Ballydoyle have waited to pitch Magical in here to take on Alpha after her impressive Curragh win.

The 2yo fillies maiden that used open the card is now a listed race, looks no less competitive though.

Should of put silverkode up last, backed into joint favorite now and will possibly go even shorter

Its 7/1 was 8/1 yesterday. Also there are about 20 horses in that race. Hardly a slam dunk.

I’m finding it hard to believe that was alpha centuri’s true running

    Hmmmmm

I have watched Alpha Centauri run numerous times and I believe she was not right on the off fore and looked very unbalanced in the last 50 yds.

Yeah, what was the only jockey that’s ever ridden the horse doing up on her? Terrible decision from connections to give a multiple Group 1 winning jockey the ride.

    You absolute plank.

Plenty of poor jockeys win group 1's don't cry that I don't rate him

Roaring Lion winning all these Group 1's is very underwhelming. Don't think he's top class at all.

    C. O'Donoghue, rider of Alpha Centauri, trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount changed leads and lost her action twice inside the final 200 yards.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Alpha Centauri, trained by Mrs John Harrington, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be clinically abnormal post race.

    Something not right.

The ride on Rhododendron yesterday was a disgrace. Didnt try a tap on her.

Something not right indeed but I’m sure pocket talkers won’t let the facts get in the way of them blaming the jockey!

i think he quickened up really smartly when murphy gave him a smack

    lovely horse

Unfortunately i didnt make it to Leopardstown. Which was disappointing as i haven't missed the champion stakes for a good number of years. I did miss a fair bit of the action but caught most of it on replays.
My takeaways from the Saturday weren't to enlightening. Its hard not to like Roaring Lion he is such a trier. He knuckled down well. The race and trip(from stall 8) wasnt ideal for him and the Ballydoyle battalion got their tactics absolutely spot on. So that was even more impressive for him to come out on top against a perfectly run plan(imo). There is a small bit of gloss taken off it with Saxon Warriors injury and its disappointing that that is the last time we will see him.
But Roaring Lion is a class horse and no doubt the best 3yo colt on the go.

I dont really have much views on the other races disappointing for Alpha Centauri. But what a tough filly Laurens is and good to hear she will be back next year.
Fantastic for Kevin Prendergast to have another nice horse on his hands at 86 odd years.

Ger Lyons was very critical of the ground on his blog post here: https://gerlyons.ie/blog/longines-irish-champions-weekend-2018-curragh

Whatever about the ground being quick (more difficult to judge watering volume given uncertain forecasts) there is no excuse for inadequate grass cover. Doesn't reflect at all well on Leopardstown given two of the best 3yos sustained career-ending injuries.
