Following the recent reports of a puma sighting in Cork. I have a question for those in the know. Is a puma legal quarry to hunt and shoot in Ireland.

The wildlife acts are a little quiet on the subject of pumas in Ireland. As well as lions, tigers, bears, elephants, unicorns and hippos. They're not in schedule five, so they're not protected wild mammals. Ironically, this now means that pumas and rabbits are legally the same category of animal :D

(We tend to prevent people hunting in Dublin Zoo using different bodies of law).

Mind you, I don't know how you'd secure permission to be on the land you'd be hunting it on, unless you knew where it was...

A puma has been described as a "large mountain cat" that holds the potential to be dangerous if cornered

What sort of clown would try corner something with big teeth n claws that can jump 30 feet ?

And specialises in ambush hunting? You'll most likely know about a mountain lion attack when it's sitting on your lap.

Well, in the wild, but presumably (if this was real) it'd be an escaped domesticated-ish pet who wouldn't turn feral for a shortish while and might not be that practiced at its being-sneaky skillset.

Mind you, I think you'd be faster getting a snark pelt.

I'm reading the headlines about a cougar on the loose in Cork and thinking I've been cornered by a few of them down there in my time...

If it's a puma/cougar you won't find him. If he finds you it will be quick for you, so don't worry.....keep away from trees.....

The bores are safe in the RCYC !
We don't have any Muntjac but we do have what look like tiny deer and they bark !!!
