Nope but the box had no padding upset the card. All packed up on top and around the sides.

check the card for a loose screw - something like that could ruin your day

May scan one had the big air pockets packing around it (3080) but the box was still able to move in the larger box, with slight damage to the inner box and the PCI mount bracket had a slight bend in some of the mounting points but I fixed that myself. I haven't checked the fan, but now I will.

Four screws are still in the fan. I can see them here.

    Is the mount broken?

Just checked mine. No movement on the fans at all apart from rotational.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,402 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

    Tore the card down.

Looks like the fan mounting plate is meant to be held on with glue and it's broken off in shipping.

Added a photo. Don't think I want to chance gluing that back on.

I wouldnt. Send it back. If the fan is that dodgy who knows what else could be wrong.

I don't think that happened in shipping, it looks like it was a bad bond from the factory.

Thats a nightmare...i would ring them straight away and explain whats happened before you do a straight RMA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,402 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

I've filled in the request a callback form anyway and just putting the card back together.

Are you calling Scan or Nvidia direct? You can contact them directly if you aren't. Thats what I would suggest. They have a chat function, I can post a link if you need.

I filled in the form on Scan. I assume I've to deal with them?

Who knows, you tried to buy it through the Nvidia website, technically, then they redirected you and you paid through their partner. So you're probably right that it's scan but they'll probably direct you to Nvidia or RMA it for a refund rather than a replacement.

Scan are easy to deal with but you're looking at a wait on your hands, they will quarantine the card after you return it.

Ah that's so ****, sorry to see that. Getting a dodgy new card is bad enough, without having to factor in the obscene stock shortages....

I'll be lucky to have a replacement by the end of November I'd imagine :(

With how things are atm there will be plenty of others quite happy to pay above MSRP and glue it back themselves :)

I wasn't suggesting you to do that.
But I'm thinking what would I do in your place, definitely not sell it, but I would seriously consider epoxy it back in place and use it.
I mean, they already got your money, RMA stock is probably second priority after the retail one.

In any case, you have my sympathy...

I was just thinking epoxy myself. I'd be worried it would only be a temporary fix though and I'd be back to square one in a few weeks.

It's going to be a permanent fix with epoxy, you won't be able to separate them again :)

Thanks. I'll see what Scan come back with. If it's a reasonable time frame for a replacement I'll go with that, if not I might try epoxy.

Thats a ****ty bit of bad luck

Id get it replaced though,if that sort of thing happened outside of warranty fair enough id try stick the fan back but not brand new out of the box.
