They have set 2 DRS zones ...is there actually 3rd they should have , between turns 9 and 10 as well

I know they'd never try anything interesting but I would've liked the long straight without the chicane and have DRS for roughly the length they have there. Let cars gain but not fly past and into the sunset.

The back straight looks like the pointless type for the current cars. The fast curves before it means there'll be a too long gap for overtaking, like Canada. The front straight maybe looks a bit too short? I'm trying not to be too negative even though it's getting harder for every race passing by but, this track does look like it could be another weekend where the quali is the race, followed by a 300km victory procession.

I predict Verstappen will take out Ricciardo in turn 3. :D

What's the apex speed at turn 8? Under 100km/h? The early blame the track attempts have begun in earnest.

Nice to be on a track that nobody has any real experience on

It's very noticeable, they are trying to learn everything from fresh. The wind is catching them out at T6 quite a bit, also a couple of drivers running slowly on the racing line. I thought for sure Hamilton was destined to smash into the back of that Mclaren. No clue what Vandoorne was thinking

Visually this track is a mess, lines all over the place and random bits of tarmac everywhere with the multi configuration layouts.

Also the pit exit smack bang on the racing line, wouldn't surprise me to see an incident there at some point in the weekend.

Im expecting a stinker again on Sunday.

Red flagged now anyway ..Ericsson crashed

Ericsson had a big shunt, and he's sitting in the car as it slowly starts to burn and he's still sitting and the engineer has to tell him "out of the car now"

Usually at the first sign of flames marshalls are there with extinguishers, not so quick today.

FP2 red flagged, Perez lost a rear wheel half way through a corner after setting a personal best 1st sector. Not clear yet if the wheel wasn't secured correctly or if something broke

I can't stand the stripes on the tarmac. It's visually disturbing. Can't bear to look at it.

Flicked on practice just out of curiosity, as I am generally Boycotting F1. Not just the eyesore of the lines on the tarmac, the entire track is surrounded by tarmac. There is not one section where if you ran wide, you get punished. You just end up on a little bit of extra track, losing a fraction of a second.

This is one of the big reasons why I am Boycotting F1 but this Paul Ricard track is taking the wizz for it.

Well the highly abrasive red bits of run off do shred the tyres if they get out that far

Looking forward to quali later, based on the practice sessions I think we are in for an interesting race. Especially in the midfield.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,614 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

Qualy was all about Leclerc, P8 in that car wow. Only 2 places behind Kimi, plenty for Ferrari to think about for 2019

    ****, flat, boring test track.
Grosjean is a ****in joke. Can't believe I ever defended him :P
Should be straightforward enough for Merc tomorrow unless Seb gets off the line well or they just mess up their own race.
    Not expecting great things alas.

How bad are Mclaren. Out in Q1. That is a disgrace.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Yep, Bouillier really has to be gotten rid of at this stage.

That's a bit harsh. Not like he done anything wrong the back of the car just went on him.

As for the track I think it looks great but not the most exciting of qualifying seasons. Most cost them a fortune on paint do.

Charles Leclerc done brilliant in the Sauber. Great to see Sauber so competitive again.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

It's just constant rubbish from Grosjean tbh. His head seems to be gone.

    Any chance of rain tomorrow?

Traffic situation unsolved. In a driver meeting it was asked what could be done to improve racing and the response was going back to magny cours.

OT but got a message yesterday to say my grown up kid would call here today and it would usually be on a Sunday.

I avoided news all day so as not know the race results and after they left I came here to check time it's on.

With, I didn't watch qualifying yesterday on C4. :D then was face palm moment. :)

Rain and thunderstorms expected today. Might be worth watching first 10 laps

Watching the F2 race from yesterday, only on lap 8 but great stuff. Driving on slicks in rain that would have a safety car in F1 and all the drivers crying down the radio. These are less experienced drivers yet "safety" isn't the issue it is for the so-called best drivers in the world.
