    High tech update? Ugh.

Have a vague idea of what some of the twists in store are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    Sounds like social media spin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

    Sounds sh*te.

On a semi related note, anyone bothered with the amazing race with the recent large amount of BB cross over?

I think The Amazing Race is grossly underappreciated. One of the best Reality shows going and even when the cast are 'meh' the concept still works regardless. I actually must watch a few more of the International Versions (I think I saw the first two Amazing Race Canada seasons, and a season of Amazing Race Australia, but must get back in to those ones). Been watching the US version since Season 9 and never miss a season.

As for Big Brother, I hope this season is a good one, because the last few haven't been great and my interest in the show is waning as a result. I do think the Celebrity Version in January/February was great though.

I'll definitely check out the series they're currently filming based on the cast. If that goes well I'll go back and look at the most recent one.

I loved TAR with Cody and Jess from BB USA. Is there more BB people in new season?

I believe it's a full Big Brother season of TAR, if I remember correctly. Cody and Jess were fantastic on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

It's a full cast of returning CBS reality TV contestants. I believe its

4 couples from BB (some good, some great)
3 couples from Survivor (some not so great)
    The rest from TAR

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,406 ✭✭✭pooch90

Oh wow! I'll definitely be watching so! Any idea of a start date?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    Pluses and minuses....

Pluses - great group of people. Some really smart people too, which should make for some great game play. Some very pretty girls too. :o

Minuses - the tech theme is horrible. Covering everything in a shiny grey sheet does not represent tech. That stupid robot is stupid.

Could be a good season if they tone that stuff back.

    Episode 2 good. Weak nominees.

    Robot is still f**king stupid.

After first impressions, the cast seems a lot better than the last few seasons. Sadly, those were the obvious first week nominees, which is unfortunate because both seem like decent characters - hopefully one of them can win PoV so both could potentially stay; there's much more obvious cannon fodder that could be disposed of this week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Some drama in the house. JC seems like a pervy prick and 2 of the girls have racist tendancies. BB has warned them for inappropriate behaviour.

It has settled down into standard Big Brother (complete with alliances and stupid alliance names) :)

The appstore is a very clever idea. If the public like you, you get rewarded. If the public don't like you, you get punished. It will push the houseguests to play the game hard and it should hopefully discourage floaters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

It's more if the public are talking about you then you get a reward and if they are not you get a punishment. I believe there's no distinction between positive and negative responses.

As twists go it's not the worst but it gives production massive powers in shifting the game based on the edit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Never thought of the edit. Good point. Yikes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Catching up, just saw the last eviction episode. Swiggy... shuggy... whatever his name is - he wasn't too happy. He honestly thought he was going to go deep into the season.

Had to laugh at Rachel's tie-breaker answer - a ton of calculations and she came up with more than 3 hours. :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

    Season is a bit dull.

Flew through the last season of TAR and really enjoyed it. I'm shocked at how much my opinion on Cody & Jess has changed since the opening few weeks of BB19.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Yeah a bit dull so far alright. I haven't watched the latest one yet, but the 3 powers in play have a good chance of mixing things up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

I actually threw in the towel on this season after the first week and just dropped in here to see if I was missing out on "the greatest season ever" or something, but looks like I may have made the right decision. I think I've just been spoiled by The Challenge, Survivor, The Amazing Race etc. that Big Brother just doesn't have the same pull anymore and has gotten stale compared to the others which have been going for just as long. I'll probably still watch the Celebrity version as it's only a 3 week commitment rather than 10 weeks, and another All-Star season could probably lure me back too. At one point BB US was priority viewing, but the last couple of seasons have been such a let down unfortunately. Season 16, with Derrick, was probably the last great season.

Ah I'll keep watching it anyway.
It's background TV while I'm playing the Switch though, chewing gum for the brain and pretty mindless stuff overall.
    Doesn't require much concentration.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

I'm really enjoying this season but it'll probably lose some appeal after Thursday's eviction.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

I think that was the first really good week. Sam put two pretty girls up because she was jealous of their relationship with Fessy. Fessy 'loves' the two girls. Promises to each of them to keep them safe if he gets picked for (and wins) the veto. I think BB loaded the Veto bag with House Guests Choice tokens and it paid off. Fessy got picked. Decided he was going to go for the win (to protect himself) - total muppet. The fallout was fun though. :)

Very enjoyable week. Definitely raised my interest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

I think it's a good cast with little meddling from production.

Kaitlyn was giving us some great TV. Real shame she's gone. They tried to make it as easy as possible for her with that ridiculous puzzle but she freaked out.

The only big weakness of the season so far is that one side of the house has their **** together and the other is a mess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

Another strong week. This season is a really good mix of strong players who know what they're doing, strong characters who inevitably mess up their game due to stupid decisions and a few weak players that are still interesting enough to watch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

That hacker competition was great, but it's a bit overpowered. :o

It sets up another good week though... this has turned into a great season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Great veto episode (despite that muppet Jessie). Loved the veto meeting at the end. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,406 ✭✭✭pooch90

It would have been an epic veto if Angela wasn't totally wrong about Bayleigh being the Hacker. But I hope they get B out, even though Rockstar absolutely wrecks my head!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Decent eviction episode (I won't spoil it for you). I like who won the HoH too - I know who their target will be next week! :)

This season is fun with the HoH swinging from side to side.

Looks like Sam was on the verge of walking out on Thursday too.

I wonder will JC look at aligning himself with the weaker side of the house.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

Just when you think you're out, they drag you back in...

So, I heard through the grapevine that I was missing the best Big Brother in years, so naturally I hopped back on the wagon and have spent the last few days catching up on the season so far. It's been really fantastic, despite some particularly annoying houseguests (Swaggy, Rockstar, and Winston especially)... The best thing is that it hasn't been predictable at all, with the power constantly shifting between both sides. At the moment, if Tyler makes it to the final 2 he's the deserving winner, but it's hard to predict who might actually be at the final two.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 112 ✭✭Johny Cage

Rockstar is an absolute idiot. She gifted Tyler the veto. Tyler has played the best game I think, he has been in control of who stays and goes most of the time. Only Haleigh has really seen through him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

Fessy, you idiot! You're ruining everything!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

    You couldn't write this sh*t!

    Great season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    He chose.... poorly.

How is JC still in there? :)

    Noms episode was great.

Liked how Angela played her HOH. Probably should have put up Sam though and put Haleigh up at the veto.
Is a showmance about to screw up Tyler's perfect game?

Oh, and JC is not a friggin' puppet master.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Another good week. Loved Fessy's speech on the eviction episode. :)

Tyler is going to have to screw up in a big way to lose this season, but I think the person who won the battle back has a decent chance.

Meanwhile, more info on how JC really is a creepy little sh*t:
    https://www.tvguide.com/news/big-brother-jc-mounduix-tyler-sexual-assault/

None of it is making it to the edited show, and streamers are calling for him to be kicked out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

That bit in the middle of the nominations episode got me right in the feels. :o

    Hard to see
    Haleigh
surviving the week. At least we won't have to cringe at
    her face-palming compliments to Julie
    (well, probably once more). :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

    That was a shocking episode.

Smelling piece, surprise engagement piece, Angela's gymnastics life story piece, JS's hoola hoop piece, nominations, Sam threatening to go ballistic should she be evicted on Thursday.

The only bright light in that 40 minutes was Britney Haynes. <3 Britney. Roll on TAR.

I didn't even know Nicole and Victor were a couple until this summer. What a bizarre pairing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    Yep, a LOT of filler.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

I do think there is generally an episode or two like this once or twice around this time in every season as the numbers continue to dwindle, but it usually picks up pace again towards the end of the season. If they're running like previous seasons, after this Thursday's double eviction, there'll be a regular Sunday episode, an extra eviction episode on the Wednesday, and then the usual eviction episode on the Thursday leaving us with the Final 3, so then they'll have that stupid BB Awards Safely Skipable Re-Cap Episode on the Sunday, leaving only the Live Finale on the 26th.

So there'll probably be more Filler in this Wednesday's episode once the PoV comp and Veto Ceremony are out of the way, but hopefully that'll be the end of Filler segments (aside from the previously mentioned BB Awards crap that I never bother watching).

I didn't mind the Nicole/Victor engagement segment, except I already knew about that part because I had seen it pop up on my Twitter feed before I watched the episode.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

It's a real shame they didn't skip the battle back this year instead of insisting with stretching out the season. It's after turning into a bit of a slog as it hits the final stretch.

I guess they had to just hope that someone other than Level 6 won the HoH once Scotty got back in but the odds were always stacked against the producers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,406 ✭✭✭pooch90

Oh Victor, you should have stayed scruffy!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

I forgot how horrible the editing was on the double eviction episodes.

I watched the veto and eviction episodes in 30 minutes this morning - I just flicked through them. I think I'll be doing that for the rest of the season now...

The pachinko veto was pretty cool though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

+1 to all points made above

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

I've been watching the whole season on 2x speed as it was and even then found myself skipping through entire chunks of the last few episodes. And this was the whole reason I felt I was done with Big Brother earlier this summer - I remembered this part of the season that was just mundane and stupid. This is where they need to start re-jigging the format to keep it fresh I think. Survivor consistently try to update the latter part of each season to keep viewers interested, as does The Amazing Race, but I think that's where Big Brother has been dropping the ball in recent years - we shouldn't want to stick with a show until the end because we've come this far, they should be able to keep things lively through the end of the season too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

Yeah, and battle backs most certainly are not the solution. Not a fan of the triple eviction that they do in canada in the end.

I'd be happy if they just shortened the season tbh.

All that's left this season is to see if Tyler can throw this win away. He's dangerously close to doing so imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    Snoozy noms. When
    Angela
won HoH, there wasn't going to be any surprises.

I know my music, but I have NEVER heard of Bebe Rexha before (and yes, I had to google the spelling).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

I've no idea who she is either. She does seem to be more popular than ziggy marley though so they're moving in the right direction.

I genuinely can't take any more of "Let's go!". It's driving me crazy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Not so shocking Veto/Eviction - Interesting HoH though, potential to shake things up a little bit. :)
