Oh Canada oh Canada, after the pinnacle of F1 racing in Monaco, we are back at Canada with some of the most memorable races in the last decade. And Alonso’s 300th GP, second with the kitten soft. Renault and Honda are said to bring upgrades to match Mercedes power.

All sessions on Sky F1 and the Online Service
    Friday May 24, Free Practice 1, 15:00-16.30
    Friday May 24, FP2, 19:00-20.30
    Saturday May 26, FP3, 16:00-17:00
    Saturday May 26, Qualifying, 19:00-20:00
    Saturday May 26, Highlights, 22:55 C4
    Sunday May 27, Race, 19.10-21.10
    Sunday May 27, Highlights, 22:40 C4

With the high engine power importance, ToroRosso and McLaren will have a good look at their engine partner while Mercedes is hoping for a good weekend.

    My predictions for the craic
    Hamilton will win
    McLaren will struggle
    Haas will be strong
    Hartley will crash

    A few broadcasting points.
This weekend is a highlights weekend for Channel 4 qualifying at 10:55pm on Saturday, race at 10:40pm on Sunday.
Because eir sports has French Open tennis rights and they seem to keep forgetting they have 2 channels there is no FP1 or FP3 coverage and I reckon FP2 could be under threat if a match runs long. Both Qualifying and the Race do have priority however.

Thanks, I corrected the Channel 4 info.

What? no FP1 or FP3, there'll be no ironing done.

No new Mercedes power units for this race amid reliability concerns in Canada.

But Honda will race new upgraded units and Ferrari expected to do same. Renault are "evaluating the situation".

Upgraded PU's expected to yield an additional 20-25bhp...

Does this mean a more competitive race, given the additional drs zone.

Damn it I am doing it again. Dreaming of an awesome race with loads of over taking.

That third zone is likely too short to work with the current speed F1 cars run at...into the hairpin would have made a bit more sense, although having the three zones immediately adjacent to each other could have been weird.

Canada throws up some good races. Nice classic track, overtaking possible into the hairpin, tire are sometimes a big factor, hopeful it will be a good race.

    The 2011 race was excellent.

I have good memories of the circuit when I followed Jordan too.

Good news for Ricciardo, the MGUK from China is still good so he'll try to run it on Friday and avoid the penalty.

Just over an hour in and Max hasn't crashed yet. Fair play.

Williams continue to look frankly embarrassing.

Red Bull pace looks good but clearly Mercedes & Ferrari are sandbagging

Yeah Hamilton had the harder tyres on. Mercedes seems to be on top, but red bull is quicker than ferrari.

Just watching Paddock Pass and the interview with Verstappan; he seems a little edgy. It's not in his nature to curtail his antics so I'm expecting he'll either do really well with a fanatic result this weekend, or take out a top six driver!!

Danny Ricc read this and just begged Horner to replace anything that gets him a grid penalty

Just seen video of Grosjean hitting the marmot :(, they showed it on the edge of the track during fp2 but didn't seem to mention it been hit

It's a pity they didn't stop the session and remove it before it went on the track, since they knew it was there for a while. Big enough animal to hit

Hartley seemed well ahead of Gasly, he could do with a good weekend

    Grosjeans engine goes pop.

No access to EIR this weekend. It's hard going listening to that Croft fella. :(

That's shocking performance from the McLarens.

Christ how much are they trying to dumb down this sport, croft telling us how they they to explain things as simple as possible so we can understand it, and then we get the "turn your tv up" so you can hear the noise an engine makes. Jesus.

Pretty poor that Vettel got blocked on his flying lap, at the very least drivers shouldn't have been on the racing line

  • Registered Users Posts: 377 ✭✭Santan

Wow McLaren, beaten by the STR Honda

  • Registered Users Posts: 880 ✭✭✭seamusk84

Very poor and majorally disappointing from McLaren. Really need to radically rethink the aero package.
It’s days like today that will make the decision for Alonso for 2019 easy.

    Come on Raikkonen for pole!

  • Registered Users Posts: 30,035 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

Hope Verstappen doesn't hit the wall sometime about now. Looked fasted in earlier sessions

  • Registered Users Posts: 880 ✭✭✭seamusk84

Sorry to see that mistake from Raikkonen on his flyer there, but great to see Verstappen in 3rd. Really want to see him on the podium and in front of Ricardo tomorrow.......Too much talk about how great Riccardo is currently!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,855 ✭✭✭Grim.

Ferrari's first pole in Canada since 2001

  • Registered Users Posts: 377 ✭✭Santan

With all the money and resources McLaren have, they seem so far behind even force India, where so they even go from here having gone from Merc Honda and now Renault with no real progress, and also having Alonso in the seat. If he leaves next year who would take his place, McLaren now facing a time where even mid table drivers will be having to think about if they want to go there

Too many qualifying mistakes from Raikkonen - always seems to lose his nerve when it counts.
