    The Lord of the Rings.

I'm guessing you are joking but in case not that isn't based on a true story. Well I don't think it is anyway

Summer of Sam, as mentioned earlier, is one of my favourites. It's a Spike Lee film based on the Son of Sam murders. In fairness, it's really a fictionalized film set around the murders, but it's still a great watch.

    I'd also recommend;

    Changeling
    Norma Rae
    Cinderella Man
    12 Years a Slave
    Saving Mr. Banks
    Philomena
    Silkwood
    Hidden Figures
    Reversal of Fortune
    United 93
    The Imitation Game
    Seabiscuit
    North Country
    Bridge of Spies
    Boys Don't Cry
    Quiz Show

    All very good films.

Always enjoyed Silkwood when I was younger, not seen it for ages though (it may have aged badly for all I know)

Does anyone remember those straight to video true story movies from the 80s? They were all from the same studio / production company but I can't remember the name. They were always about things like a girl with anorexia or a wife / child being abused by an alcoholic husband / father.

    There were loads of them.
I believe the production company was Odyssey Films.

My mother was a sucker for them :o

Was just about to post. I remember one that had Liam Neeson as a serial killer made a good while before he became well known. Not sure if it was based on a true story but he was murdering young girls and hiding their bodies in a cave (I think)

The Hurricane was good but unfortunately it was a "True Story" that wasn't really true. It is widely believed he was guilty after all and got off on a technicality!

Control based on Ian Curtis of Joy Division was well done but very sad.

Watched Hacksaw Ridge recently on Netlflix, thought it was excellent, based on a true story.

Or Office Space (if it was based on my life in work at this present moment :-P )

Rush, Apollo 13, A beautiful mind.

Ron Howard is a great man to tell a true story, all highly entertaining from start to finish.

Rush was a big surprise for me.

    The Damned United

I thought The Damned United was brilliant and cast very well with Colm Meany as Don Revie and Michael Sheen as Brian Clough. Apparently Clough's family were not happy about it though and thought the film's representation of him was too harsh.

    The Great Escape

A belief in gender identity involves a level of faith as there is nothing tangible to prove its existence which, as something divorced from the physical body, is similar to the idea of a soul. - Colette Colfer

The Imposter is a great 'cant believe that actually happened' documentary.

    Downfall was very good.

I watched the docudrama film Auschwitz made in 2011 a couple of years ago and wouldn't recommend it. I didn't like the way it was made. I dont usually get too upset over a film even if its true but it was too realistic, raw and very grim.

Mask (story of Rocky Dennis) is my favourite biopic.
