I think my heart stopped several times watching this.
It's parents like these that should be referred to social services.

You're not going outrun a wild cheetah.

    They were very lucky.

People were mad as hell at the parets of the little child who fell into the gorilla enclosure, but that was an accident. This is pure reckless stupidity of the highest order.

Idiots, and now they will have to fence the area and spoil the views for the rest of us non morons.

To put your child in that kind of danger though .... words fail me.

There are so many stupid people whose stupidity, unsurprisingly, does not stop when they become parents. It's just the consequences become much more seriously. I was standing on Rialto Bridge among the crowds one summer evening looking at the Grand Canal below a few years ago and this couple had their young child beside them lying on the fúcking wall of the bridge (see photo) while they took photos or whatever the fúck they were doing. I just had to say something to them.

I thought this was in Africa. How the feck did the Dutch manage to build a safari park of all things in such a tiny country that's the most densely populated state in the EU? Do they not need houses or something more important for all that reclaimed sea?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,789 ✭✭✭wandererz

This is a loaded answer and a light hearted one as well. Every pun intended.

The Dutch colonised SA. Their forebears went on to create institutionalised racialism (aka apartheid)

The Netherlands however, went in the opposite direction and became very liberal and inclusive. That is now changing to exclusionism. SA however has been trying to change to inclusionism.

Long story short, someone in dutchland thought: "my conquering forefathers must have had such a great time with the animals in Africa. Let me bring that experience to Dutchland instead."

Or it could have been a South African of Dutch heritage who decided to get the F out of SA because things don't suit any longer yet want to have the same experience, and all they know is how to run safari parks.
Possibilities are endless, but those are my top two answers.

BTW, it helps to understand Dutch when listening to the audio in the video. It is hilarious.

Have already seen suggestions on SM that to be fair to the Cheetahs from now on the Safari Park will start putting down all French tourists

(fabulous place by the way, highly recommend it if you're in the area, they've a nice (safe) walking route as well)

    Here it is :

Reminds me of the Asian tourist who decided to take a picture of herself with a lion.

    She was was eaten.

Happens pretty regularly, always annoys me when the animal ends up shot.

I don't really see why the animal should end up being killed over the human (who's already dead) doing something incredibly moronic.

It's all the cartoonization of wild animals in mainstream western culture, animals whose real nature is their want to rip off your face. Then you'll get planks like these mopes - "Hey look, this is the Cheetah section kids, memba the Cheetah in 'The Lion King'? That lad was sound, lets go say hello"

Nice of the dad to bail into the car and leave his wife and daughter at the mercy of cheetahs.

    Exactly what I would do.

The daughter was probably in his ear for two hours about taking a slash.

I must admit when I was younger...
That I done some stupid crap in front/for my nephews and nieces, maybe trying to look cool or tough who knows!?
But when I see grown men with their VERY own children and probably a nice wife.. When I see them acting in a totally stupid and with total disregard for the safety of their 'precious' family, seemingly oblivious to danger and tragedy, and just to come across as cool or fearless...
Well it makes me think and worry about the well being and mental capability of the father/husband of those children and their wife!?
Look we all like to look 'capable' of heroism and bravery, we've all done/said stupid over the top things to people in front of our loved ones gf/fiancés/wifes/children etc etc
But some of the stuff you see 'some' men do is truly shocking and totally unacceptable.....

You're normally fairly safe with cheetahs. They don't typically go for something as large as a human. True stupidity is when you decide to get out of your car in a lion enclosure, like these idiots

That sounds like "famous last words", and the staff member warns re children. Also the adults were clearly terrified and that scent of fear will set critters off

They should lock the tourists in their cars...
