Sure it'll get massive figures, ad breaks will cover the costs :)

Will that show other European royal weddings?
Once the UK leaves , we should get closer to our European neighbours.
    This is a total joke

Doubt it’ll cost anything but why a foreign royal wedding would be on tv in a republic is beyond me.

I'd say the audience will be quite big. I never cease to be amazed how many people are interested in this type of ****e (I don't mean that in an "anti royal" context, who gives a sh1t about any "celebrities" of any kind)

Because a sh1tload of people will watch it.

Can’t wait! Royal Wedding followed by the FA Cup Final ! Housework can kiss my sweet ass that Saturday !

Because a lot of Irish people are now obsessed with the celeb culture, and these folk getting hitched are now more celeb than royalty.

Because like it or not, there are very many people in this country who'll watch it, and there's advertising revenue to be generated.

Anyway, should RTÉ only show content produced Ireland? That's ridiculous.

Less bothered about the cost than who the fcuk wants to watch it. Not as if it isn't going to be done to death anyway on the UK channels which most people have access to if they're that way inclined (which in fairness is their own business). I just don't see how this meets any kind of public service or information for the republic.

You must be joking? Two people getting married in another country being broadcast on our national broadcaster's flagship channel?

Not joking. We show soccer match that don't involve Ireland and they are just two teams playing a match.
Some people are into the royal wedding and they get up at all hours to watch it.

it will be more entertaining than Fair City.

So what? People love celebrity weddings, they always have. It’s not as if there’s anything else going on. What do you want to watch?

It will probably replace some repeats or some cookery programme. Will people really miss those?

I'd rather they showed the GAA matches that they're skipping to show this, to be honest.

Personally I think soccer is dreadfully boring, but that's a personal opinion.

I don't think my personal opinion should dictate what others want to watch.

Royal wedding is of no interest to me either, but I know half the women in the country will be glued to it - and certainly most of the women who work for me are interested in it.

Now Leinster v Racing is worth every cent :) - so I'll watch that next Saturday and herself can have the tv all day on 19th giving me a day of golf.

Now, I do see rte are planning to show FIVE league of Ireland soccer matches live.
    Live sports broadcasting is expensive.
Hardly anyone has interest in league of Ireland with attendance at games frequently under 1000 people (a village gaa game gets more), now THAT is a waste of licence payers money as there will be virtually no advertising revenue to offset the very substantial costs

Surely if ITV are covering it, it will be on TV3/3BE, or what ever they call them selves.

I'd happily look at Meghan Markle all day long. All night long too if she's take off her clothes.

Young Harry Hewitt is a lucky man indeed.

Yes, it's to have an Irish perspective on it tough.
Similar to have we have Irish commentators on soccer matches and not just English one's!

Munster fans are still sore :) Though two more minutes or bringing Zebo in a lot earlier and they'd be playing leinster. :)

I don't get it either but some people love it. A neighbour of mine booked the day off work and is having about 15 friends over. Husbands been told to take the 2 kids and disappear for the day.

I saw an event on Facebook a few weeks ago and somebody in the Yes campaign in the referendum was hosting a Royal Wedding party to raise funds!

He needs training - "wouldn't it be great for the kids to see it too"

And then have a day of peace and quiet.

Nobody cares about the Dutch Royal family except a small amount of Dutch people.
The British Royal family are TV gold all over the world.
There are people in the jungles of Papua New Guinea who know who Prince Harry is and know he’s getting married this month.
That’s just the way it is .

Only a few wretches in the arse-end of nowhere living in single channel land who wish to see this, would watch this ad's and all on RTE instead of the BBC ad-free.

I'd like to see a mass demonstration of some kind to really fupp up their day. Paint thrown on cars/carriages, people with megaphones blaring over the sycophantic TV hosts, and generally fubar/snafu (or whichever military acronym is your favourite)

But since none of this is going to happen I'll make do with watching the FA Cup final.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

That’s true though. Even though that Maura Derrane seems to have a cult following.

Does this Markle lady know that she is marrying into a family of lizards and will be forced to give birth to a royal hatchling?

The John Goodman film King Ralph always makes me smile. Not the whole film, just the first few minutes. TV 3 should show that as a nice counterpoint.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Scrap the license fee, RTE aren't impartial anyway so just do us all a favour, stop criminalising television owners and make that station pay per view/subscription.
