WTF - attacked with cordless drill

Takes a lot to take me aback these days...but this is just absolutely horrific:

A woman has been assaulted with a drill in a potentially homophobic attack in Co Tyrone.

A teenage boy was arrested after a 38-year-old woman suffered a "very serious" head injury, the PSNI said.

The victim is in a critical but stable condition in hospital after the attack, described as "barbaric" by local representatives.

A 17-year-old boy is being questioned after the incident which occurred at around 2am on Saturday morning in Railway Street in Strabane.

According to the Mirror he pinned her to the ground and literally drilled into her head.

What the actual f*ck?
How disturbed / out of it do you have to be to be capable of something as horrific as that?

I'm starting to wonder if the Irish mental institutions are releasing tons of nut-cases thinking they are ok to be allowed into society again. Every year it seems that more and more crazy people are appearing in this country. For a teenager to do something as horrific as this needs to be examined into his past, doctors records the whole lot.

I think Northern Ireland is about 30 years behind the republic of Ireland in most cases. Just my opinion though.

This crime is particularly vicious, yet due to the daft laws in the country, we aren't allowed to know the name of this animal as he's only 17 and not considered an adult. Even though he can have a row with someone, head home and get a drill and come back and nearly kill them.

It is 500m from the border, hardly like its in ballymena or somewhere. I know people in strabane, theyre just like misplaced donegal folk, who worship mickey harte. This attack has a few scenes missing - 17yo male arrested for assaulting a 38yo woman in a homophobic assault??? Doesnt stack up

Her condition was last described as grave. If thats is indeed the case it might as well be murder. Absolutely sickening type of attack. Some junior acid attackers in the UK have had their right to anonymity waived. Hope the judge does similar here.

All we can do is wish the women the best. Totally disgusting what happened to her. Hopefully the culprit is locked up for a very long time as they are a clear danger to society.

Just like the guy in Dun Laoire who slit the throat of that woman around Christmas and who was refused bail on the basis of the police fearing he would commit murder and his parents fearing for his safety. Absolutely horrible what happened to this women. I hope she recovers but even if she does she might never fully recover. The pictures on the news of the councilman cleaning the path looked like there must have been a lot of blood on it. The piece of **** that attacked her deserves to be thrown into a dark cell and eating by the biggest rats that can be found. He certainly should never be allowed back out into society again.

Didn't read of any motive, other than the police who said it was likely a homophobic attack, so he obviously is just anti-LGBT.

Honestly part of me hopes they don't waive his anonymity. Once they do all the media coverage will be about him. Who he is Where he came from. What he had for breakfast that morning. At least this way the media are forced to give substantial substance and time to the victim. Rather than say a terrorism incident where the terrorist almost attains a higher profile than a rock star and the humanity and plight of the victims is largely forgotten about.

Strabane is a hole in the ground. I went to the town several times over the past few months. It's where economic dreams go to die.

But people there are the same as anywhere else- coming from all walks of life. This particular attacker was a homophobic nutcase, a piece of infectious human waste- who will probably be released from prison within 3 months, thanks to society's terrific justice system.

We don't know what exactly he did but either way the victim's injuries are being described as very serious. If he actually did drill into her head then surely he'll be charged with attempted murder?
