To be fair, this isn't funny this is downright depressing.

The one in the OP, I get the feeling that this is specifically aimed at people of a certain nationality who may be willing to tolerate such cramped conditions.

effin bleak though. There's barely enough room for one person in that.

A relative charges an extra €50 a month for an apartment with 3 bedrooms in south city centre. The RPZ stops her putting up the rent.

    Where is Chinatown in Dublin?

Can be quite upfront when no Irish need apply. They might know their rights. https://twitter.com/Lamfada_0/status/1203420706165469186

She can put it up by 4%.

    Moore Street.

    Moore Street.

No she can't only every 2 years.

Moore street is not Chinatown. We don't have a Chinatown in Ireland. A shop called that doesn't count and certainly listing it as close by is odd

Parnell Street is China town. Food is yum

I presumed they meant Parnell St? There are a lot of Chinese businesses around there. I still wouldn't call it Chinatown though.

    Bleak yes, funny definitely not.

I think we stopped laughing a long time ago.

This would be hilarious if it wasn't so serious and dangerous.

    3 people?

Incidentally every month this twitter account posts images and details of shoddy rentals for offer mostly in Dublin.

It's amazing that substandard rentals can be just willfully put on credible rental websites. That one on daft.ie.

I have not gone through all the examples on that twitter account alone but if you go through it it is pretty disturbing.

What's the worst property to rent you have come across in Ireland in advertisements or even one you have seen yourself?

That is MENTAL ! Not even a studio apartment, a double room with some cabinets and a microwave thrown in. Still have to use the bathroom of the apartment. 6 or 7 years ago, while place would have went for less than that.

Oh I agree and I did nto name the thread. And often thought as you are doing

But there are after all at least three meanings to "funny"; funny=humourous, funny = peculiar and funny= downright odd or peculiar/suspicious as in !" a funny business". It is a versatile word...

Most of these will fall into these 3 categories

There was one that had a tree growing through it!

    This thread is part II
The original OP was in 2011 when things were different.
Situation has changed so yeah... thread title might be due a change too.

My post was merged in from another thread, so I wasn't referring to the original start of this thread :)

The Funny name hasn't fit in a long time. Maybe it's time for a freshen up of the title. Here's a few options -

    Mental Rentals

    Rentals of Late Capitalism

Down & Out in Ennis and Dublin

Gimme All Your Money (All Your Hugs & Kisses Too)

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 20,862 Mod ✭✭✭✭inforfun

Ah.... That is to make it even more confusing then.

But ...housing situation is ****ed. We can agree on that i suppose

99% of the thread these days refers to property for sale anyway. Recent posts being the exception.

Every day I see this thread pop up I wonder when someone will petition to have the title changed to:
"Bleak depressing price inflated Houses/Flats to rent, or how our future is being robbed from us"

I preferred it when the places were genuinely absurd like the Marilyn Monroe house, or that one in the North with the see through bath in the conservatory overlooked by the whole neighbourhood (and the 'fleg' motifs everywhere, naturally).

I don't know what the despair emoji is, but we could use it now.

Who remembers how crazy the Marilyn Monroe house was?

Suspiciously fond of red for all downstairs rooms...then it all becomes clear. The house comes complete with a Man Utd room.

    And that awful pinewood.

Can we stop it with the pinewood please everyone?

Some of the best (!) ones are for sale so that needs to be reflected in the title? Something more generic? A parody version of " Home sweet home"?

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,384 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    Needs more external sockets.
    6 isn’t nearly enough.

I’m guessing the place is lit up like Vegas at Christmas.
