Someone posted this over in the Skint Britain thread, Channel 4 poverty porn in a deprived area of the UK. Look at the prices though! 3 bedroom flats for a few months wages, 3 beds for 20k:

    https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/find.html?locationIdentifier=REGION%5E601&sortType=1#prop57737412

In a region where most of the population is on benefits I wonder could you take the price of an Irish house over there, buy 10 properties and live off whatever their version of HAP is? Begs the question why none of their super landlords have done that though, the place was about as bad as its possible to get...

The maintenance costs would easily exceed any rent received for those properties, no landlord that wants to make a living would touch them.

What are the chances that people from that area aren't the type to consistently pay the rent either.

I don't know though, I'm currently on the search for a property that will mean I live mortgage free and I'd be willing to put up with scummy neighbours.

Once you can close your front door at night who cares?

Wait until childrens allowance day and they have a party from 6pm to 6am the next morning?

How about when an up and coming semi-professional independent pharmaceutical salesmen starts dealing from your street?

How about when an INLA MVP lives in the flat below you..... and he suspect you to be a Taig tout. Then you might want to think about the neighbours.

INLA MVP what? Bit of hyperbole there.

For anything else there's noise cancelling headphones. :)

Are there 'putting out fires' headphones?
    Are there 'anti-junkie' headphones?
Are there 'stopping your kids or yourself getting murdered outside your house' headphones?
    Are there 'anti joyriding' headphones?

It's not as simple as pulling your curtains every night.

Jesus Christ relax, I'm only making the point that I could put up with living in a bad area to be mortgage free, don't know why so many people feel the desire to jump on me over that.

Same people would be calling others snowflakes.

*"All I need is a bottle of Yahoo, bud"
*"I just need €2 euro for the bus, bud"
*"Here I bet that house has got good stuff for selling at the pawn shop"
*"Them Taig c&%ts down stairs are informing on us to the Best Brit intelligence units"
*"Its 3AM and I am going to have an F£$kin' trad session after one more line of crystal meth!!"
*"I am sorry but there is device in the neighbourhood and the OED team are on their way. I know it is 5AM but the ERU commander has decided that for everyones safety its best to evacuate the street."

You got HeadPhones for that crap?

You can do that when you are single young fit and aggressive looking.
As you get older and with more responsibilities you dont want your kids seeing those junkie scumbags and learning from them. Would you rather your child brought a snail in from the garden into the kitchen or bought in a syringe from the street?

That is the difference in responsibility. These scumbags always end up in the poorest neighbourhoods

It’s likely because people don’t think you know what you saying.

There’s a reason they are dirt cheap. It’s because nobody wants to live there. There’s a reason nobody wants to live there ... because it’s sh1t

Can everyone please just let BBFAN live where he likes? Kind of feels like the thread is getting derailed

Anyway, for those who always wanted to own their own jail, there is one in Pennsylavania for sale for less than $400k

Rents in parts of Hartlepool £77 a month!

For the same price you can buy a 'park home' in York

Jesus that is dire, I pay e750 for a 4 bed 50kms from Dublin (though thankfully our rent hasn't gone up in 3 years as our LL lives in US and is only really interested in covering her mortgage and is happy to have tenants that wont wreck it)

That has to be illegal surely??

Worrying to if there's the shower... Is there even a bathroom, or is the sink 'multifunctional'..

    It is illegal yeah.

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/housing/renting_a_home/repairs_maintenance_and_minimum_physical_standards.html

    All landlords must provide:
    • A sink with hot and cold water
    • A separate room, for the exclusive use of each rented unit, with a toilet, a washbasin and a fixed bath or shower with hot and cold water
    • A fixed heating appliance in each room, which is capable of providing effective heating and which the tenant can control
    • A fire blanket and smoke alarms
    • Access to vermin-proof and pest-proof refuse storage facilities

I've reported it but doubt daft will take it down. It is up since Saturday with over 2000 views.

Handy for people who like their sleep-ins. You can shower and make your breakfast at the same time.

What would you do with a small 2 bed apartment?

Why put a bar in the living room of course.

I love that, why the hell not put a bar in. Does not make it worth 300k though.

This one has an 'entertainment room' that looks like a lounge bar

For use during orgies is the only thing I could come up with for those weird bench things.
