Got a room up to 4x smaller than the minimum space requirements for an apartment? You're a perfect fit for Dublin's studio rental market!

This studio for €1,015 / month in Portobello has managed an even more compact 'kitchen' than the one above (a microwave stacked upon a fridge, that's it!)..

    Repossessed house I'd say.
From seeing the graffiti on the wall, more likely a family that had to leave to find work.

    yes.... unfortunately.

Seems crazy though, sinks, toilets, shower doors and everything gone

Before I even saw the graffiti pictures I thought "that's a house that was repossessed, and the owners took everything with them that wasn't nailed down, and quite a lot that was".

And that is the future for much of remote rural Ireland that is not within the commuting belt of the cities. In 30 to 40 years’ time many, many one-off McMansions and bungalows will be abandoned and left to rot.

Just spotted that someone is trying to let the following (long term) on a Facebook 'House Hunting' page: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/24976347?fbclid=IwAR1f7UuwloUiEN8a04PkeazJO8xS6AhXYUDOfmDj2Gpa02phXq8PBT8DvnA

When queried, she claims it has "insulation, heating, flooring, lighting" so "conforms to all standards" - She's getting destroyed on the FB page. Doesn't take a genius to figure it does NOT conform to standards... No washing machine, No 4-ring Hob with Oven & Grill, No adequate kitchen storage. She confirmed it was a 'proper' studio, built / provided by Sheeltech SHEDS www.steeltechsheds.ie

Just realised... where's the fcuking kitchen sink?!

No mention of price for long term rent.

It's quite pretty but it's basically someone's shed.

That's a fine big wardrobe - it would easily accommodate a toilet and wash hand basin. :o

How are you supposed to reach the microwave to take your sad ready meal for one out without scalding yourself?

That's part of the heating system.

Don't know how you came up with that conclusion.
As others have speculated it looks like a bank repossession and the family are not happy they had to leave, hence the grafitti and any fittings in the house that could be removed were removed.

"Keep out - Family home" looks clear enough to me!
But the robbers still went in, they didn't give a fúck!

That's what the chair in the wardrobe is for. You put it on top of the fridge, climb up, and Bob's your uncle.

Unfortunately, having a bit of experience in this area, I can assure you that Chosen1 is indeed on the right tracks.

'Keep out - Family home' means 'Don't buy - we'll persecute you'.

It's not a message for thieves, it's a message for potential buyers, to keep them away.

The theory behind this thinking is that if no one is interested in buying the house, then the bank will realise that the best financial outcome is to allow the family back in and work out a repayment plan.

The reality is that all they're doing is alienating buyers, which means less interest in the house, meaning it will sell (they always sell) but for much less than it's worth (potentially leaving the owner with an even bigger outstanding bill to the bank).

The house is stripped of anything and everything because, 1) it's a 'fcuk you' to the bank (again, only devalues the house, though), and 2) to sell on, as these people likely are penniless and will try to sell this stuff on adverts/donedeal/etc. to recoup some money.

I've always wanted a bunk bed in my living room with the fridge within easy reach, never knew it'd cost me 1,050 though.

This thread actually makes me pretty angry to see what greed fueled “landlords” are trying to - and indeed are - getting away with.

    It’s a national scandal.

Whoever buys it will have to modernise it. No big deal.

The absolute state of some of the places linked here. You can almost smell the mould.

Can't wait for the government-backed cardboard box initiative.
