Supposed to be refurbished in phases. €4 million allocated for Phase 1 I heard. Which will only be enough to modernise one floor of the Chemistry teaching labs.

No money yet allocated for Phases 2 onward apparently.

Had a look there today, not a thing happening as far as I could see.



Work looks to have started on the pedestrian bridge on Patricks Quay, it's funny how much better the old PJ O'Hea building looks in the photo montage than it does in real life!

Yup. Though the hotel on the right (The "M") has changed a bit, it's been reduced in height and the higher 'bridge' between the two buildings has been removed form the plans. (Not sure why.. the river-side part of that building looks fine. It's the other part to the right that looks a bit bland 'n' blocky, IMO.

I never even knew this was in planning: Planning granted for a 192-bed hostel on Morrison's Island The current area is some kip, so this should be welcome.
New 136-bed Cork hotel to be called 'The Dean' This is a different operator to what was previously planned right? Hopefully it will mean construction will start soon as they have already missed the "end of the summer" deadline.

First time I've heard about the hostel and I'm normally glued to the planning applications.

I know the people of Douglas are extremely sensitive about what constitutes “de village” but surely the site behind the cinema is also greenfield? Anyway this planning for Barry’s field will 100% be appealed and the real decision will be in a few months time.

It's a pity it's on a one-way street though, as this means all shoppers from the South side will have to drive through the village to leave, and all those from the North will have to drive around and approach from the South; needlessly sending additional traffic through a traffic chokepoint.

Please do not be surprised at the incompetence being shown here with respect to traffic.
Cork County Council has certainly shown themselves to be totally incapable of dealing with traffic in Douglas full stop.

I doubt they give a sh*t. It will be the city council's problem soon.

CIT have a MSc in cybersecurity.



IMO it's just a snowball effect. Two of the largest security companies (Trend & McAfee) set up here many years ago. Others followed them to Cork to poach the experienced staff and then the number of companies built up steadily, especially over the past 5-6 years. Now there are loads, and even non-security companies are setting up their SOC and SecOps teams here. As someone who works in the industry I can tell you that I'm inundated with recruiters contacting me.

I'm about 80% sure that plot sold last year (before the marquee site sold). Don't know the buyer though

The ESB Marina site is prime development land if ever I heard of any.

If it's shut down, will that result in the removal of the HV lines from the power station across the Lee over Montenotte? They are an awful eyesore.

Just followed them lines on google maps, they cross the whole north side over mayfield and Ballyvolane and down to a substation just across the rail line from brakens in blackpool. That would be a lovely surprise for a lot of people if they are no longer needed!
