Never been to one of these arena comedy gigs. Just wondering what the set up. Tickets say 8pm so what time would comedian come on at. I'm thinking they don't have a warm up, but maybe I'm wrong. Is there an interval, what would be the length of these shows compared to a normal gig.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,373 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

Yes always a warm up(s) for 30-45 mins or so, 15 minute ish break and then then 1hr 15 mins ish.

Great comedian seen him years ago in a half empty pub in London. He's got bit more popular since then!.

    Any confirmation on this?

Bill did a set downstairs in the Stags Head last night

That is the best stand up I've ever seen. Absolutely loved it. No lulls at all. The bald headed **** delivered.

Insanely polished standup. Every single line landed. He's the best in the world right now. And. I don't think there's anyone else close to his level.

The ‘Me Too’ stuff was the weakest part of the show, mainly because it kinda felt like he or someone had done that already. The golddigger stuff too was a bit of a rehash.

Some seriously laugh-out-loud bits but there were parts that I didn’t laugh that much during.

    Hit and miss for me.

I loved it, though I do think he needs to do a bit of research on how some of his gags will be received internationally. The Brett Favre joke was brilliant, but was met with silence.

Also thought the part about the Dunleer murder case was met with an uneasy laugh by a lot of people. I thought it was fine though.

Shout out to the massive wanker in Block F who did his best to ruin the night with his fake, over the top laughter and idiotic heckling.

I do agree though that a lot was recycled. He has done a lot of that MeToo material before, as well as the Gold Digging Whores and Military "Heroes" bits.

Yeah, he was ill-prepared on Ireland compared to other international comedians I’ve seen. Lack of interest on his part? I don’t know.

Some over-the-top laughers behind me too, drowning out what he was saying.

But the ‘first responders’ bit and him imitating a blowing up sex doll were gold. And any supposed interactions between him and his wife remain hilarious.

I enjoyed it. Should have avoided YouTubing him last night though

Epic stuff. One of the best comedy gigs I've ever been to.

What I love about Bill is he will comment on the audience reaction to his material rather than ignore it like so many others. You expect that in a small club of course but somewhere the size of the 3 not so much.

Most of the crowd were cool enough but lot of idiots too. Was the bar still open during his set? They need to put an end to that. It's bad enough people going to the toilet but a constant stream of people making everyone stand is very annoying, even when it's not your row.

To my right was a very liberal section of the crowd and man they were incensed for a lot of his stuff and five or six took their jackets and walked half way through. The rest of them that stayed kept commenting on his material and there was din from them now and then and Bill even commented on it at one point and everyone shushed them from then on. Why they went I have no idea. What kind of material where they expecting from him like.

Anyway, loved tonight. Can't wait to see him again.

The people streaming in and out were very annoying. It was the same at Radiohead last summer. I’ll probably sound schoolmarmish here but can people not make sure they have toileted beforehand? And bought enough refreshments? It was very distracting. It was hard to settle into the gig properly.

I feel like some of the crowd didn’t know what Burr is all about. There was a few awkward pauses during the show where laughter should have been. I’m not sure why that would have been. Was there a contingent in the audience who only knew him as Kuby from Breaking Bad or something?

In Ireland I have found that you will get large groups of middle to upper class twenty somethings attending shows even when they know zero about the artist. At music gigs they are easier to spot as they'll be the ones texting and taking selfies with their backs to the stage. I don't go to sporting events often, but I've heard similar being said about those too, in that they'll be dozens of them sitting in some of the best seats in the house but yet not a bit interested in the game.

Anyway, one of them has piped up on Twitter.

What the shite had the referendum got to do with it? Like if it was two weeks ago, it’d be all g? Makes no sense at all.

The first responders bit was one of the funniest bits in the show!

Well he said straight away that the Brett Favre reference would be lost.

I think the reference to the Dunleer murder was a direct response to us cheering for 9/11 and Pearl Harbour. I can't wait to listen to his next podcast. I hope the gig gets referenced.

    I was in Block L.

The movement of people throughout the show was insane! If there was a camera recording the crowd, it would look like an ants nest with people scurrying everywhere all the time.

Excellent gig. The bit where "No means no, except when it doesn't" is old but excellently delivered.

    Brilliant show!!!

Some a holes behind us were thrown out for persistently acting up. A mini cheer went up as they were escorted out!

Anyone know what oul Billy Bítcht*ts got up to after the show?

He's playing in London tonight. Would he have traveled last night I wonder? Late and all but at least would wake up there for tonight's show.

One of the reasons I will never pay an overpriced ticket into the three arena again. Delighted to see Burr upset the always offended / can't take a f*cking joke crowd.

Christ, why do these constantly offended people buy tickets to be offended again and again.

I was saying this to the lad I was with, probably 20% of any crowd aren't "fans" as such, they're there with their bf, gf, husband, wife, etc who is a fan.

These are the ones who'll look most disinterested.

    I didn't go. :(

He may have recorded some of his Thursday podcast over here. He'll have something to say in one of the podcasts though about the show. I think he's turning 50 around now.

Was this not a p*sstake of him going on about "why don't you blog about it?"...?

Absolutely amazing gig. Even if he repeated some material from his previous shows (the bit where why would be praise a war "hero" for pointing towards the battlefield).

The idiots cheering for Trump and the ol' switcheroo had me in stitches.

He recorded his Monday morning podcast from a hotel here... probably record the Thursday one before the gig from London.

Made it in for about half of the support fella. I may have been too sober... didn't find him funny at all (yes, humour is subjective).

Also, he's 50 on Sunday (only know that through the podcast).

I actually thought he was ok if the jokes were a but "Irish" laughing at bangardai's height etc.

He got a fair few laughs consistently through his short set.

    Nah don't think so.

She later deleted her post as I think people were pulling her up on the tweet.

Can't wait for this episode of the podcast now. Hopes he rips Dublin a new hole.

Bill even mentioned at the start of his #MeToo bit that it is getting more difficult to do controversial jokes in the US because people are becoming far too sensitive and reactionary because of social media. The irony of it all!

went last night as Im a big fan of the bi-weekly pod cast for the last few years. He was spot on throughout in my opinion. Even for jokes that didn't land with an Irish audience he openly acknowledged that we wouldn't have a clue about what he was talking about and moved on... command of the stage was exceptional. Engaging and reacting to an audience that size was also brilliant. My wife came with me and had never heard of him but she thought he was brilliant and was laughing out loud for some of it... she particularly liked the me-too and first responder material. The emotionless father material had me in tears... overall brilliant and also cant wait for the thursday-morning-just-before-friday-monday-morning podcast is uploaded, id say the cheering of 9/11 will definitely get a reference.

Why don’t people man up and tackle these idiots? Power in numbers.

What did Burr say about metoo, Trump and 9/11?

You kind of had to be there! :p

I'm probably completely wrong, but basically how "no is no" is not right because 'no' could be a coy 'noooo... don't.... stop', but when read out in court it sounds terrible.

He did a bait-and-switch appraisal of Trump. He let people clap and holler, then slagged him off. Was brilliant.

Mentioned 9/11 and then started laughing his a$$ off when the whole crowd started cheering.

Was that not just a live camera to project him on to the screens?

I only noticed that one guy who didn't move at the front of the stage. Even when Bill noticed it he went "oh f*ck, there's a camera!"

Yeah, you could be right there and if it was being recorded guess he wouldn't be saying he was surprised by the guy being there :p

Hope the Albert Hall gig is at least recorded.
