    Some people shouldn't be allowed move to rural Ireland. If you can't survive a few days, you shouldn't really be living there. You lay in some basic foodstuffs, have alternative sources of lighting, heating and cooking etc. - these are all basic things.

    That's about the size of it. It's easy to take the continuity of power, water, lighting and heating for granted, even in a county town.
    Different story even just outside the boundaries of said town, and further out, the more likely disruption is.

    Agreed. I have this and live in a large town with plenty of local shops etc. Basics of being a responsible adult. I'm no survivalist, I don't like going an hour without my phone but minor planning is all it takes.
