ME saying “blizzard like” conditions - it’s either a blizzard or it isn’t!
A blizzard is a severe snowstorm characterized by strong sustained winds of at least 35 mph (56 km/h) and lasting for a prolonged period of time—typically three hours or more.

Wasn't sure myself so had a look.

Very heavy mixture of small flakes and big flakes with whiteout conditions and blowing snow. Very strong wind too. Not sure if it qualifies as a snowsquall or not.

Visibility quite poor in D15 the last while. 'Blizzardy' I would say.

So judging from their forecast with the strength of the winds it will be a blizzard

Don't see much snow for me here in tipp tonight, maybe some light stuff for a few hours, but the models are not convincing for here, but it's unpredictable so maybe I'll get lucky with it

If Hirlam verified we will be talking about this event to our grandchildren

    Can you post it?

I think the red warning should be reduced further to just leinster and coastal counties of munster (cork, waterford and maybe kerry for a time). There will obviously be snow elsewhere but is unlikely to be that significant

Nope they've been added again. Separate warning.

Snowing lightly in West Clare for the past hour, it got heavier about 10 minutes ago but got sunny concurrently, the snow is falling without any clouds above it. Refusing to settle on surfaces unless they're already snow covered, starting to get annoying.

Thaw on in Kilkenny. Seems the worst has passed, except it's not according to weather. Will be interesting to see this sunny day turn into a blizzard.
