This has a new 1.5 diesel, I assume it's a different engine completely though can't find much info about it.

The old PSA DV6 1.6 engine I wouldn't touch with a barge pole - there's a certain thread here about a C5 with one of these that is a good example of their reputation...

Looking like November for pricing to be released and December/January before they will be in showrooms.

On the engine side I think it is 1.5 diesel ( not 1.6 ??)
Reviews seem good but if you are comparing it to a Mazda 2.2 ??
I think you would feel the lack of grunt TBH.

I would agree with vectra about the comparing Mazda 2.2 to the Peugeot 1.5 HDi, you may need to look at the 2.0 HDi.

I was speaking to some of the guys from Gowan on the Peugeot stand at the Ploughing last week, they are thinking January release date, but they plan to have a few cars here in November and December for viewing going around the dealers, so get into your local dealer to see when they expect to have one.

Approx starting prices for the Peugeot 508 Active is €35,000, with the Peugeot 508 Allure at €37,000, Peugeot 508 GT line at €39,000 and the Peugeot 508 GT at €41,000

    Cheers lads. Thanks for feedback
I was thinking the drop back from the 2.2 in the mazda will be something I'd find hard to live with. 2.0ltr is prob the way to go but might push the car beyond the budget. Will drop into the local dealer over the next while to see.

As far as I know that engine issues you are referring are for limited to pre-2012 1.6 hdi engines.

Approx Peugeot 508 GT at €41,000

    :cool::cool:
That makes it sound more tempting.
I wonder what spec will it have and what would need to be added ?

Sorry Vectra but I think the guys from Gowan are a little light on some of there "approx" prices that they said to me as they want to sell cars, so I wouldn't be too hard on them for that. I've looked at the out going car price list and I've put my own approx prices on the new Peugeot 508 (see lower table).

Below is the out going Peugeot 508 car price list* (2015 - 2018 Facelift model)
(Prices taken from www.Peugeot.ie on 29th Nov 2017, current price list is limited to only the Active 1.6 HDi car, as the car is now getting phased out)

    Model Engine Fuel Saloon SW
    Active 1.6 BlueHDi 120bhp S&S Diesel 6-Speed Manual €28,435 €29,975
    Active 1.6 BlueHDi 120bhp S&S EAT6 Diesel 6-Speed Automatic €30,135 N/A

    GT - Line 1.6 BlueHDi 120bhp S&S Diesel 6-Speed Manual €32,950 N/A
    GT - Line 1.6 BlueHDi 120bhp S&S EAT6 Diesel 6-Speed Automatic €34,650 N/A
    GT - Line 2.0 BlueHDi 150bhp S&S Diesel 6-Speed Manual €34,545 N/A

    RXH 2.0 BlueHDi 180bhp S&S EAT6 Diesel 6-Speed Automatic N/A €42,080

Here's my guesstimate on the 2019 Peugeot 508 price list.
It's a total wild guess on the Hybrid4 models, but I would expect about €2,500 extra on the petrol models.

Model Engine Fuel Transmission Saloon SW
    Active 1.6 BlueHDi 130bhp S&S BVM6 Diesel 6-Speed Manual €32,700 €34,300
    Active 1.6 BlueHDi 130bhp S&S EAT8 Diesel 8-Speed Automatic €34,800 €36,400

Those prices seem very ambitious, you're nudging 5 series territory.

We all know this will sell very poorly - when was the last time Peugeot, Citroen or Renault had a real seller in this class?

The 406 sold pretty well and had a decent reputation - but that was also back when things like the Mondeo, Vectra, Carina E/Avensis, etc. were also big sellers. That segment is pretty much dead now, it's going to be a hard sell either way.

I just compared the prices for the Peugeot 508 in France

    Peugeot 508 Active from €32,200
Peugeot 508 Active SW from €33,600
    Peugeot 508 Allure from €35,100
Peugeot 508 Allure SW from €38,200
    Peugeot 508 GTLine from €40,000
Peugeot 508 GTLine SW from €41,300
    Peugeot 508 GT from €46,000
Peugeot 508 GT SW from €47,300

I still think I'm pretty close on the prices, even the Irish BMW 5 Series is a little higher priced here see below ;)

Irish BMW 5 Series from €48,750.00

French BMW 5 Series from €46,350.00

So the new model in allure spec could be 40k, that's quite an increase. It looks like a lovely car but that's an almost 10k more than my current 508 allure cost.

I'd doubt the 508 Allure will be as high as 40k (unless your planning on looking at the options list ;)), but I expect it it will be around 36k to 37k.

I wouldnt be spending 46 grand on a GT either

I am on my 3rd 508sw company car. I normally do 80k a year and love them. My current allowance is 29.7k list , I cannot see my company keeping them on the list with these increases

At those prices they won't be selling many. A Passat would be cheaper!

Are they trying to pitch it againnst the Passat or the Aerteon ? Gorgeous car, but they won't be shifting many of them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,225 ✭✭✭nc6000

You could get a decent spec Mercedes CLA for similar money.

  • Registered Users Posts: 51,153 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

The CLA is way smaller than the 508 and aimed at a different market. The VW Aerteon would probably be the closest competition to the new 508 and the Aerteon ain't selling much here either due to its high price and limited model range.

I cannot see many spending 40k on a new 508 to be honest and those that do will be hit with heavy depreciation meaning any sold could be good value second hand. Unfortunately I think the new 508 will be a rare sight on these shores.

Prices are nuts for the higher spec when you consider that a brand new 318d will start at about €44k when it goes on sale in March.

Going by what I have read (example) they are pitching it at the Mondeo, Passat, Arteon, Audi A4 and A5, BMW 3 series.
PSA Group plan to move Peugeot cars more upmarket. They have been investing heavily in quality over the last few years, the current out going 508 is starting to show that. They also plan not to sell loads of them, they intend to stop the fleet discount in the UK, as that is what causes the heavy depreciation. The number of levels of spec has reduced and standard equipment is high. We should have real prices from Peugeot Ireland by the end of this month (I think it could even be the next week, the 18th Oct is in my head, but I could be wrong), and then we can really compare the prices, but for time been I have included a few prices of other cars below. ;)

    The Ford Mondeo prices:
    5 door Hatchback
    Mondeo Zetec from €29,395
    Mondeo Titanium from €31,750
    Mondeo ST-Line from €32,995
    Mondeo Vignale from €36,595*
    Mondeo Titanium HEV from €35,785
    Mondeo Vignale HEV from €40,825*
*Vignale is only available as a 4 door saloon

    The Volkswagen Passat prices:
    Saloon
    Passat Trendline from €28,195
    Passat Comfortline from €30,295
    Passat Highline from €32,750
    Passat GTE from €50,450

    Estate
    Passat Trendline from €30,295
    Passat Comfortline from €32,395
    Passat Highline from €34,850
    Passat GTE from €52,550

    The Volkswagen Arteon prices:
    Arteon Arteon from €39,650
    Arteon Elegance from €42,295
    Arteon R-Line from €44,650

    The Audi A4 & A5 starting prices:
    Audi A4 from €35,930
    Audi A4 Avant from €38,330
    Audi A5 Sportback from €46,160

It could be the last car you buy too

    Here's a great acticle

  • Registered Users Posts: 51,153 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Every time a non premium brand car company launches a new large sized model that's expensive they claim to be pitching it more upmarket against the likes of the 3 Series, A4, etc. It rarely works out that way and just seems to be the default jargon from the marketing department's handbook.

  • Registered Users Posts: 844 ✭✭✭GeneHunt

Interesting article here, Peugeot are planning a 350+ HP Hybrid in the 508.

  • Registered Users Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

Am I the only one who thinks that this chase of higher class market will bite manufacturers up the arse? So many of them doing this.
Seat separating their Cupra in to separate higher class brand.
Citroen has separate DS line. If you have Citroen franchise, you cant have same showroom for DS. They cant be together.
Peugeot now aiming for higher class too.

These brands always had their market share, because those were in price range of average Joe. A lot bigger market I guess too? This higher class market is smaller and already has big boys who are there for years. I doubt someone who bought Audi for years will go and buy 508, because salesman said its not cheap car anymore.
