Stupid question I suppose, but does anyone know why there was this sudden spike? Any big or exciting news, a Tether print, Binance opening another exchange etc? Or is it just a pump and dump?

We're back to buying pizza, via the Lightning Network this time. LN seems to be gaining some traction with big names like Jack Dorsey passing the "Lightning Torch".

Vitalik has now also been spotted eating dessert.

Let's all remain calm. Pour a scotch. Lay back in the jacuzzi. Proceed to FOMO into every shítcoin with a hint of moon.

Nice to see volume increasing, if it hits past $30b I'll be pleasantly surprised. If it goes past $40b it'll be edging past most of 2018's dismal figures (where the high volume was caused by mass sell-offs).

    Skeptical brain: false bull

    Cryptard brain: This. Is. It.

If ever there was a time not to be calm it's now. Only joking nice to see a return

Eth nearing the fork. And general FOMO

I'd put it down to mainly psychology. The further we get from the "big crash" the more "potential" there is in people's minds for another (real) bull. Regardless of what's happened to them in the past, people do not want to miss out on that because in the past it's shown 10x and 100x gains (recently '13, early '17, late '17). Many who got into crypto in 2017/18 (a lot) will see prices as currently "underwater" in comparison

So this current rise will either climb and then fall (generally expected), or it will "step up" (hold most of the value its gained, which is very good) or it will turn into a bit of a frenzy

Could write endlessly about this, so indeed crypto could go to zero, go into a perpetual bear, etc, but basic herd psychology Never changes. I would not be surprised to see another significant bull run, no idea when it's going to happen, but time (and distance from last crash) definitely increases the "probability". That said, personally I feel we are still in the bear, but market is irrational, anything could happen

Even ultra cynics and skeptics will be feeling the "twinge" as they watch prices rising

Edit: and as another poster said, the charts. Whether it's going up or down, the similarities are uncanny. Self-fulfilling prophecies.

It's the charts, lots of people expect it to repeat the last cycle. If you lay the last one on this years the rise is due todayish.

I'm pretty sure that's it. While bitcoin is wild looking and hard to predict. If you lay the charts over each other, It's been scarily accurate in recent weeks.

    I haven't seen a better theory.

Who are the next group of people who will rush in to form the next bill run? I don't think there's too many left. Everyone and their mother heard about bitcoin last time. All that's left now is baghodlrs.

My crpto is worth 42% of what I paid for it (Got caught in the FOMO in 2017 rise, held ever since).

Hope this isn't a false dawn.

It's all a state of mind lads, you will be laughing in 12 to 18 months. Get back in and accumulate now this year, little bits and bits add up. 1 satoshi = 1 euro.

That depends on what one bought initially, could also be crying in 12 to 18 months. I think most people who bought at the peak are seeing huge losses if still holding,

Only if they sell. They are not selling they are holding coin so they have not lost anything. Flip the switch if bitcoin goes to 30k who is laughing.

We’ll know the concept of crypto is definitly a success when NASA starts making space shuttles in red and with an extra spoiler on top.

So ETH seems to be cooling off (stabilised around 130 euros since yesterday afternoon) but XRP could be taking over for now (4% increase in the past hour).

ETH and BTC knocking on door of 150 and 4000 respectively, think it'll cross today. Then it's run time.
