I think its a case of a totally different mindset required. It's an excellent feature of crypto - the ability to hold your own funds. However, it comes with great responsibility and its far from user friendly.

I'd hope someone can innovate towards a more user friendly way to facilitate the user to store their own funds safely and securely.

Massive scope for a business/idea to offer a secure service for cold storage wallets imo

Yeah it needs to happen, but I’m not even sure what self storage means.

If we’re talking about a physical device you can buy which will let you easily and securely (from a software perspective) store crypto offline and transfer it inwards and outwards to exchanges, we can really call it self storage. But the comesthe question of the physical safety of the device. I.e. if you have 50 bitcoins on it, do you hide it inside your mattress at home (and how safe is that and case of a break-in or a fire?) or do you rent a safe at a bank an insure the content of the safe for the value of the coins? (but then is it still self-storage?).

Now if we’re talking about a dedicated custody service which you are handing your crypto to and paying to store it for you, then it is not really self storage anymore. And as far as I can tell it is not all that different from an exchange which would have taken carefull precautionnary measures to ensure the safety of the cryptocurrency they are holding for you but which is not currently up for sale? (Hence my suggestion if having some kind of certification people can refer to and which comfirma those measures are in place and regularily audited but a national regulator or a recognised and fully trusted private entity)

Get a Samsung phone with Knox, enable the Secure Folder and store your wallets in that

I do a lot of trading, have masternodes and coins that stake. A phone is no good for keeping my wallets, need my PC :)

mind me asking what you stake and where??

was gonna nab some NULS (which i think is currently undervalued) and start staking

I'm more into masternoding really, just temporarily staking until I have enough of this particular coin to setup another masternode with it. Staking is with my own PC (switched on and connected to the internet 24/7) with an encrypted wallet unlocked for staking only

My masternodes are all run on VPS from vultr.com

Always suprised nobody ever mentions masternodes on here. If you have your money in crypto, you might as well make it work for you a bit :)

    me too!

only doing my research in recent weeks

I have a brand new server in a box:
    Fujitsu PRIMERGY TX100 S3p
    8GB DDR3 RAM
    500gb x2 3.5 SATA
    Intel XEON E3
    DVD RW
    WIN SERVER 2008 STD

...that i never used for a recent project that i might use to host, or sell and buy more coins to stake

Ill give you it for less than half price, or trade for crypto if you (or anyone)is interested :p

So you weren't really looking for a secure offline solution then.

A phone isn't really offline, is it? :p

@Tinder Surprise - just using my main PC. Kinda had it on 24/7 anyway. Have stopped mining with it as the occasional crash can upset some of the local cold wallets which then need a full resync

Had a masternode and have some coins currently staking away. They are interesting but there are no guarantees that the coins/produced coins will go up in value or be worth anything in the future

Plus producing more of themselves (via staking) can dilute their overall value.

All true, Dohnjoe. Nothing is certain in this business :)

    Awesome great news!

Edit: First 5k people sign up get 20euro, but it's temporarily suspended from what I can see

Currently only allows you to buy BTC and ETH with EUR and GBP.

Step in the right direction that they should have put in place a long time ago.

Coinbase just got a kick up the ass and long overdue as their charges are just silly - I know the GDX route but it still makes things more convenient

Aye I hate coinbase but don't we all wish we thought of it first! Mad scramble for my passport there but also pending approval, happy days

What's new here? Am I missing something? I use Kraken to convert fiat into crypto and vice versa for reasonable fees (way less than coinbase when I checked last). Is Binance much cheaper than Kraken?

Not sure either. Maybe the fact that Binance has a much wider choice of altcoins and could potentially make those more easily accessible with euros? (either a direct pair or via another token in the middle, but without having to leave the exchange)

Just checked and Binance doesn't have any of the main coins I trade in / masternode / stake :p

I think I'll stick to Kraken for fiat conversion and the likes of Cryptopia / Cryptobridge for trading...

What do you think of NULS? (marketed by the community as the WIX of the blockchain with modular style options/dapps builder for the non expert)

    currently $0.38c

15% staking reward and some staking pool also hand over a small percentage of profits

    calculator here: https://nulsprofit.com/

here is an example of one of the staking pools..https://nulswest.com/#/

Fees are high on Coinbase, but on the other hand they seem to have the best insurance policy out of the exchanges. Of course I don't fully trust any of them until they are externally rated by an independent and regulated third party

A few weeks back someone asked me what I was on about when I suggested the tokenization of equities, securities, etc. as a use case for crypto. This month has seen...

DX.Exchange and Currency.com launch - offering just that.
The state of Wyoming introducing a bill to facilitate the tokenization of equity stocks. Delaware and California likely to follow them shortly.

Plenty going on in the space.

Deloitte's Blockchain Survey. An awful lot of CEOs and CIOs seem to find this really slow database valuable for some reason. Huh, who knew?

    Cryptopia Exchange was hacked

small irrelevant exchange but still, hopefully no one on here effected

    Seems 21 million amon tokens were stolen, from an email this morning;
The AMN token is listed on cryptopia and, even if it has not been confirmed yet, it seems that some AMN tokens have been stolen. We have identified this wallet that seems to have 21M AMN tokens from the hack:

    https://etherscan.io/token/0x737f98ac8ca59f2c68ad658e3c3d8c8963e40a4c?a=0x9007a0421145b06a0345d55a8c0f0327f62a2224

Binance has recently frozen some tokens that were hacked, you can read the article here.

While we cannot freeze any of these tokens, if you see movements on this wallet going to some exchange warn the cryptopia exchange so that tokens can be frozen. We have already alerted the exchanges where our AMN is listed.

Cryptopia has notified and is cooperating with the appropriate government agencies, including the NZ Police and High Tech Crimes Unit.

IOHK (Cardano/ADA) are moving lock stock and barrel to Wyoming soon. It seems Wyoming has a new governor that wants to turn it into the blockchain hub of the U.S

Very significant - and they've addressed the whole rehypothecation issue - that could lead to wall street fractional-reserving bitcoin. That's still a danger for any of these guys that base out of New York (potentially, Bakkt)....which would really screw up the notion of a limit of 21 million bitcoin.

A bill has been put before Colorado state senate to try and get a law passed that would exempt crypto from SEC regulation (existing securities laws originate back in the 1940s and are not designed for crypto). Similar bill being promoted at national level.

Got a really weird email from Binance today asking me to finish a sign up for an account by clicking a verification link. It was to an old email address I have but haven’t used in almost a decade. I’m one of the least likely people to have have or want a Binance account. Are they having any security issues on their side?
