+2313 new cases and 196 deaths

Think they have had close to 600 deaths in three days

Christ. So it looks like the taper yesterday was the outlier and the exponential growth is continuing. I hope we're learning lessons from this and are going to react accordingly.

The numbers yesterday were apparently incomplete

That explains it. We have to hope that starts tapering soon while the lockdown is in place. Tho it's possible it will only start tapering after the incubation period of 2-14 days? That could mean an incredibly tough few weeks. (All of this is going to be a function of how many tests they are carrying out as well, of course).

50% of cases show symptoms within 5 days.

Right now Italy are testing anyone with a temperature above 37.5. Probably the most liberal criteria for a test anywhere. I hope they are also mining case histories effectively as this is a lot more efficient.

Think I saw South Korea don't have any criteria? just rock up and ask to be tested

I haven't looked at the specific thread but I have had a look across social media generally out of interest. There is undoubtedly a section of society that are thriving with the outbreak and are actively enjoying it under the guise of acting concerned. You can genuinely sense the disappointment when numbers aren't increasing on a given day. It's somewhat ghoulish and surreal, to be honest.

This sort of thing is why I had to stop reading the thread on boards. It's full of absolute misery merchants.

Curious what you mean by that Venjur? Closing schools, etc.?

(As an aside, I'm glad the conversation on here is pretty measured. Can't go near the coronavirus thread itself).

I mean just reducing the level of risk you expose yourself too. My work is moving to working from home from Friday / Monday. No one has been told by the government but we're taking the hit now as we don't want people getting sick even if the chances are still low enough.

Similarly i'm going to stop going to the gym for a while and skip nights out for a while. I'm managing my personal risk a bit more, nothing dramatic but a start.

I've seen people criticise the government for not closing schools. From what we know, kids show fewer symptoms and have a lower risk of contracting covid-19 than older people. There is even evidence that the virus is less transmissible by children. Closing the schools may not dramatically slow spread, but it will immediately take a huge number of health workers out of the equation. Is now the optimal time to close schools? Maybe - maybe not but people need to think beyond 'just close it all down'.

A lot of public bodies and government offices starting to ramp up remote working contingency as well, I know OGCIO were around several places working with departments to ensure they've relevant access remotely etc.

Our team have been talking about business continuity for the past few days and running remote tests etc.

Dead right. I haven't been to the gym since SARS and I'm eating only deep fried food since swine flu.

Can't be too careful when it comes to your health.

I'll tell you one thing, I genuinely don't think I've ever touched my face as often without even thinking about it since they told us not to do it. Almost like it's constantly itchy.

I've grown a beard recently. Between the itchy phase and the novelty of stroking it I definitely am not following that advice like I should.

And they banned funerals for a month. Like do they even have the facility to store the bodies or will they do what Miami had to do in the 80s when Escobar flooded the city with cocaine and use freezer trucks.

Denmark closing all schools and universities immediately.

Ukraine, Greece and Poland have all done similar too. My younger cousins are being added to OneNote groups and email chains by their school in preparation for giving out assignments and stuff if the schools here close.

A juventus first team player has tested positive for covid19. He has been in squad in CL in France in past few weeks as well as a few Serie A games.

    Would be ****ing typical.

Jokes aside, I don't want to consider how the city of Liverpool (or half it) will react if things are just cancelled and nobody gets the title. It would be ... unsavoury.

Ireland and the UK not included in the ban.

Anyone have any ideas on how many tests we're doing, currently?

South Korea are one of the few countries that seem to be stemming the tide. This tweet details what they're doing. Free testing, open to all. The drive-thru testing is a good idea, would like to see similar introduced here.

Given how much I used to travel - not in a surprisingly long time

Yeah it was a completely botched press release, they've already had to row back on the goods ban so who knows if this is even policy. No embassies had been told and the US state department seem to be in the dark also. Lunacy. This is a far greater crisis to the US than 9/11 and they have a child running the show.

Incidentally the two countries with Trump golf courses are still allowed travel. I would be will to be money that is why it doesn't apply to Ireland / UK.

Weird to see half of Europe's ministers melting down about the UK getting special treatment because they're not in the EU.

Hey lads, don't forget us pls.

    Very good read:

    https://medium.com/@tomaspueyo/coronavirus-act-today-or-people-will-die-f4d3d9cd99ca

It suggests official cases will continue to grow exponentially up to 12 days after lockdown, as existing case symptoms get stronger.

Stepdaughters were meant to go to NY last November, the airline went bust. Rescheduled for Christmas, their grandfather died. Rescheduled for Easter... that's gonna be a no

Yup. We'll where it goes now. Sensible move and a soft landing with it coming into a bank holiday(ish) weekend. Basically for 2 weeks.

Will be a bit of a juggling act as I can't really work from home every day but we'll manage.
