Thats the new one. It will be the only one from 2018 on.

Pics of each on this link https://www.celticwhiskeyshop.com/index.php?route=product/search&search=midleton%20very%20rare%202017

€400 for the 2017 with old style packaging?! So you're basically paying €220 for a box! Those lads know how to try rip people off. Some dozy yank will buy that thinking it's some exclusive rare whiskey.

They make it pretty clear that the only difference is the packaging. Like any collectable commodity, the price is based on the rarity.

And how is midleton 2017 rare? I can get it in supervalu. It's nuts to think someone will pay that much extra for a "collectable box".

First, if they dont ask, they will not get. I would be surprised if they sold many but if they do, fair play to them. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. People pay insane money for all sorts of things......but they are happy to do so. Its their choice. Logic does not rule the world . :D

Some enthusiasts pay many multiples of this for bottles of liquid that are 50-60% water. There's no need to be distraught over other people's hobbies.

    I'm not distraught lad

Speaking of 'collectables', anyone know if these glasses can be purchased? Can't seem to find them anywhere online at least.

Probably a daft question but is Middleton very rare a good investment.
I know it should be for drinking but I'm curious to know what sort of returns you'd get for the 2018 in 2028?

Got a bottle of 2016 sitting unopened at home, bought it for the aul lad but he passed before we could drink it so it'll never be opened now.

Probably be worth around 450 in 10 years time.

I know it would be hard to open it, but you could have a measure of it at each anniversary. Would be a nice way of remembering him.

A 1994 bottle went for £200 at an auction recently (then deduct fees and commission)

Whilst it say "rare", that's very much a marketing name.

Very few years have increased much in value and they are mostly the early years.

I'd do as above, open it and enjoy a toast every year. Even opened whiskey won't go off if stored in normal conditions

    Thanks,

Not keeping it so it appreciates in value, more so keeping it as it was his to open.
The man drank whiskey all his life but never any real good stuff. Feels wrong to open it.
I do plan on getting another just to toast alright.

The reason I was asking the above question is I was looking at whisky funds and how they have appreciated over the past 10 years (Not hard as the market has been on a 9 year bull run) and was pondering middletons value.

That's exceptionally cheap, definitely not normal.

There's a 2016 bottle for sale in my local supervalu. Was tempted to buy it but have the 2017 (half gone) and already went through 2014 and 2015. Skipped the 2016 for redbreast 21. Really not sure what to get this christmas....MVR 2018, RB 21 again or Barry Crockett....possibly even Dair Ghaelach.

It does seem on the low side

I thought that the 2016 was nicer than the 2017, even though the 2017 had older blends.

Ended up buying it after seeing that celtic whisky had one for sale for €350! Supervalu selling it for original price of €170.

The original price was 155, but still a good deal at 170

Not bad return on investment if you bought it for 120.

631% profit at today's exchange rate (I know there are fee associated with the sale) over 24 years

No guarantees but certainly something to look at :)
