Soccer's great, I live close to the Spurs stadium and go to games regularly (even more now tickets are freely available for Wembley). I'm from the same estate as Roy Keane and he was a hero to us growing up. The only reason I support Spurs is because my aunt brought me to a game here in London when I was 11 and Jurgen Klinsman scored four goals in a row and I was mesmerised.

Are there loads of negative aspects to it? Hugely. I hate the fan segregation, the (small minority) of shrinking hooliganism, the sheer commercialisation of it. But I also support a non-league team, it's a fiver in and we can sing and chant and drink cans and beat drums. The camaraderie is unreal and we regularly collect for local food banks and fund raise for other causes. Match day at home is always class. Football in England is still a key part of working class culture and hugely important to people.

If the OP doesn't like soccer then he's perfectly free to spend time playing Warhammer or World of Warcraft or whatever floats his boat

Wenger will go down as one of the greatest manager of all, going through a season unbeaten will go down in history as the biggest achievement in top flight football.

Every single day we have to listen to the drone of ugly foodball managers talking absolute tosh in front of an advertising stand and all presented as if they were talking about something serious or important. The garbage they talk is so cringworthy is can even be funny sometimes.

OP I think you should stop watching foodball and start watching football instead, I think you'll enjoy it.

The sport of football itself is good but the calibre of much of the supporters, managers and players themselves is in scumbag territory. Sorry if that bursts anyone’s rose tinted bubble but professional football needs to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. A whole culture change is badly needed.

Not one single top league footy player who is gay (and there are quite a few of them) has come out. In 2018. That’s a f*cking disgrace.

True. To my knowledge I think the last was poor old Justin Fashnu and we know what happened to him. Jesus even boxing has had a few people come out and the culture of that sport is one of the most macho of all.

There’s been a couple of gay footie players who’ve come out after they’ve retired from European football like Thomas Hitzlsperger and Robbie Rodgers but no-one in the major league actively playing yet. That’s very sad. It will eventually happen - and when it does it will blow some scum supporters’ ideas of what it is to be a so-called “real” man out of the water.

Justin Fashanu was unbelievably brave to come out when he did. But look where that ended up. :(

So you hate soccer and try to avoid it and starting a thread about it helps in what way?

Why has this not been shut down? Football is like kryptonite to mods. Nothing ugly about Arsene or how Arsenal play.

Mod-not sure how a football thread slipped past us for 10 hours but I'll fix that now. Football or any sport threads are not allowed in AH unless Ireland qualify for something ( so about once every 10 years) Their are numerous sports forums to post in if you wish. Read the charters.

    Locked.
