Yep. I was - and am still - really gutted that Leinster were willing (or were pushed) to release him. But I wish him all the best at Ulster.

I don't know how he's going to do at out- half, but I guarantee that he'll always give 100%.
It may well be the case that he made the decision himself. The competition for the back row at Leinster is ridiculous, even with Heaslip gone and SOB injured. He has a much better chance of establishing himself as a locked in starting option at Ulster. And that would probably give him a better shot at an Ireland jersey.

I'd say it looked great at the time. Gibbes, Champions Cup rugby and having an outhalf were all on the table. Meanwhile competition at Leinster was fierce.

Now the first three are gone / perilous and the competition at Leinster has really calmed. I think it'll be like when Conway left Leinster for competition - made sense when he announced it, but Isa retired Fitzgerald never really came back for very long and in reality he'd have got great gametime.

Conway looks pretty happy at the mo tbf. Adopted Munsterman.

Oh yeah - he definitely is. Munster fans love him etc. But madly he probably has more competition at Munster now than he had at Leinster. Less so once Zeeeebs leaves.

Interestingly of Jordi Murphy's senior cup side in 2009, 6 are still playing pro rugby and none will be at Leinster.

    Murphy - Ulster
    Conway - Munster
    Buckley - Connacht
    Heffernan - Connacht
Macken - Wasps as of now
    Dylan Fawsitt - America

I recall hearing that when the news first broke that he had signed for Munster, Cheika went berserk and Conway had to hide until he had calmed down!

Did Cheika fly all the way over from Australia looking for him?? That guy needs some anger management...

Mix-up between Felix Jones and Andrew Conway, sounds like.

    Ah.

Well, if it was a good move for Conway, it was an absolute no-brainer for Jones given who we had at the time.

Was Cheika not in Paris at the time?

Well, if it was a good move for Conway, it was an absolute no-brainer for Jones given who we had at the time.

At the time Felix Jones left, the academy was in its infancy, if you can even call it that. The story goes that Cheika wanted to keep both Jones and Carr but was told they could only keep one on a full deal so he, despite his fury, chose Jones and then Jones subsequently left and Cheika was left with neither of them. He was uncharacteristically quite unhappy to be left in that situation.

Reading between the lines of Herring's statement I suspect there is genuine anger within the squad.

Statement from Rob Herring on behalf of the Ulster players and pro staff:
"It is with a great deal of sadness that the players and pro staff have learnt of this outcome," said Herring.

"We know that the two boys will be successful both on and off the pitch wherever they go.

"As a group, we have to move on and our full focus is now on Glasgow this weekend," added Herring at a scheduled news conference before Saturday's game.

trying to draw a line in the sand and focus on the Glasgow game, can't blame them! this has been a distraction all season.

Yeah, difficult enough for them to deal with this collectively as a group but that's a good statement and it'll just underline the whole theme of "lets heal fractures and move on together" that I reckon we'll see over the next few weeks.

Yeah. Hard to know what effect it has had, but two wins on the trot is possibly an indication that it may have had a negative one. Glasgow will be tough though.

Ulster fecking hate Glasgow! hope all this anger transpires to line breaking and scores this week.

I think that's fair enough. If the hacks want comments/interviews about the fallout from the trial, they can call the office and speak to the suits.
Let the rugby players and coaches get on with rugby.

Trying to ensure that the sports journos get to do their jobs and that Ulster get to talk about the rugby in the pre-match pressers isn't really a big deal though, is it? It's not like they are banning the media from ever speaking to them about anything.

Ah yeah absolutely, I'd say it was rugby journalists asking for that. They were the ones whose questions/content were being squeezed out,

Don't think the UR side would really care that much actually. They could sit there for 30 minutes saying nothing over and over again and then leave, it'd just mean the rugby lads would be short of content for the back pages.

It's really all anyone can do. I think fine protest on Sat if you want, it won't achieve anything, but it will allow people to vent. But as I keep saying don't boycott the match, as that would just be punching yourself in the face in order to piss off someone else.

It seems the players are doing the same. Even talking of their sadness and talking positively about PJ and SO is a far cry from Logan's words. But as you say they talk about moving on to Glasgow. The fans need to find a way to do that while also making their unhappiness known. I dont know how they do that though.

Mayne they should just have a good old fashioned Belfast riot!

Matty Rea to miss Glasgow and possibly Munster games.

    McPhilips recovered for Glasgow.

    Disappointing about Rea.

Definitely, really think a full pre-season and more game time and he will become a very useful player fo us. Considering how he's ended up in the seniors he has very done well.

I'd go Reidy/Timoney/Deysel in that case.
