I thought that episode was great. I found it much better than last week.

Michelle to James when he complains about the history workload: "if yous lot had of stopped invading us every 5 mins we'd have a lot less to read.. English prick!"

Loved the Atari 2600 in the bedroom, proper authentic detail of the time.

Thought last weeks episode was better.

They have some really good lines in this show. I just wish they'd tone it down a bit..they don't need all the weird faces and over acting with it when theres decent script. Sometimes its just a bit cringe! But I'm enjoying it none the less

I thought it was very funny tonight, Michelle's utter disdain of James is hilarious. She's definitely the star of the show.

I'm just leaning into it now, so much easier.

Is this just Mrs Brown for Nordies?

Thought it was poor enough tonight. I did enjoy the joke about the brits invading every 5 minutes though. The nun is very good too

I think you could call it a sort of female Inbetweeners meets Father Ted meets Moone Boy.

The weeping statue storyline was pretty much taken from an Only Fools and Horses episode just with dog urine replacing rain. Still it's a harmless and fun 30 minutes with some sharp dialogue.

It's a little bit more subtle but still a fairly middle of the road sitcom imo.

what defines a nordie? sure Donegal have near enough the same accents as Derry.

The last time I saw Fr Peter he was playing a Gaelic Footballer giving his gay team mate a hard time.

As much as I want to like this, it's been downhill all the way for me.

First episode was excellent, second quite good, this one was pretty poor IMO.

Only the amusement of the local lines (me stomach thinks me throat is cut) kept me entertained but I really hope it picks up again.

If it continues the downward slide I'll be very disappointed.

Brilliant series. I havent laughed out loud so much watching a programme in ages. I think the actress playing the head nun is hilarious. I think there is only 6 episodes, hopefully they'll make more.

Id say british people find it very hard to understand? Theres a good few times during the episode I didn't understand the lines because the accent was so strong

Just a heads up, tomorrow night at 11.15 on BBC2 yer wan who plays Michelle Mallon, Jamie-Lee O'Donnell will feature in a film about abortion, will be interesting to see her in a different role...
In early 2017, she was part of an ambitious tour of venues across England and Ireland with Liverpool-based theatre company 20 Stories High. Their innovative production, I Told My Mum I Was Going On An RE Trip, shared verbatim real-world stories about abortion in the 21st century.

"It's very different to other things that I've done, which have been comedies, mostly. It was a very topical piece and BBC Two picked it up for their Performance Live season. It was filmed a few months ago, in a documentary style, and I play various different characters in the piece," she says.

The finished film will be broadcast on BBC Two this weekend. "I can't wait for people to see it. I'd love to do more stuff like it in the future," she says.

Haven't seen Kevin McAleer for a long time. I always enjoyed his monologues.

Just watched the first 2 episodes.

Had only seen the odd ad for it and took little heed of it but my wife download it tonight

Loved it, thought it was brilliant.

McAleer as Uncle Colm made me crack up, after they set the scene for him earlier with the phone call.

More McAleer, that's what this country, needs.

Just got around to watching the first episode now - honestly, a little disappointed. The main problem was I just didn't really laugh.

But I'll stick with it because the cast had decent chemistry. We shall see.

I thought that the 2nd was better than the 1st, mainly due to Kevin McAleer. Third wasn't great at all.

The second episode got more laughs out of me. I love the deadpan nun. Another Inbetweeners comparison here; she reminds me of Greg Davies’ character in that show. “Was I suppose to pause dramatically there? Interesting”, “I won’t be joining you because... I hate the French”.

But her parts were the only bits I laughed at apart from economy 7. It’s just not funny enough for me to stick with.

The nun is the unintentional star of the show. Is there room for a Sr X show rather than father Ted?

Enjoyed Ep3.....and a lot of Derry actually used in the filming.

Would totally agree, the nun is the star of it.

Anyone complaining about the speed at which they talk and the overacting has never spend more than 5 minutes in Derry. They nail both of them in this series.

For me episode 1 was the best one so far, followed by 3 and then 2.

These seem to change depending how far south you live, as does your love of the Nun who I can take or leave tbh.

If you're not from the NW I feel you'd miss about 25% of the humour.

8/10 overall for me so far, won't get higher until the phrase "mucker" is uttered.

The social media outlets have gone overboard in writing about this show..

"You'll never believe how old with Derry Girls actor is"
"11 best lines from Derry Girls"

    etc. etc.

We're only 3 episodes in and while I'm enjoying it, the constant fawning by JOE.ie and the likes is testing my patience..

While it's a solid show, I wouldn't even put it inside the top 50 comedies Channel 4 have aired over the years.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,795 ✭✭✭dulux99

It's a decent show with some laugh out loud moments but christ above the main blonde girl is a poor actor. Her over exaggerated facial gymnastics are terrible. The director should have talked her out of doing that crap as everything else in the show is delivered very intelligently

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,987 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Paisley still being heard when the TV volume was turned down to zero was my fav moment of episode 3.

"I don't know how he does it".

As for social media fawning over it, well thats just the way social media works I'm afraid. And its hard to avoid.

I am too but I'm in my 20s, the mother always talks about Maine mineral vans, you can get them in shops now. Something I remember was a van that drove around the countryside selling bread and stuff, it stopped around late 90s though.

The Maine vans are still a thing in Derry. I saw them delivering about houses in Dublin a few years ago too.

The weeping statues thing is a bit more like what you'd have expected from the mid 1980s not the mid 1990s. It's a bit out of keeping with time and is VERY like an Only Fools and Horses episode about a weeping statue scam that Del Boy accidentally caused.

I think the acting's great though and the storylines have been pretty solid other than that one.

I'd imagine it's the director who talked her into it, as opposed to talking her out of it. I haven't seen any of her other work etc but I presumed that she is being asked to do the whole OTT gurning in order to portray the overly dramatic teenager.

I know a few people who actually have faces like that. It's not that unrealistic.
