Maybe there is no such thing as an addictive personality but in fact you have poor self control.

Edit: I didn't mean that as an insult, I just mean if you look at it the way I suggest then you can tackle the problem and get your addictions under control rather than thinking your doomed to addiction due to being built that way.

I read somewhere that people don;t get addicted to things, they get addicted to the pleasure the substance/behaviour creates. Not sure where...?

Anyway, in answer to your question: the internet. Have some blocker software installed on the laptop that blocks all connections at certain times.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Chocolate. Crave the stuff. Have a sweet tooth in general, but don’t eat sweets or crisps. Ate two packets of chocolate biscuits in the space of half an hour this evening.

I'd consider myself addicted to food. I know, mental, but it's a very real thing. I've lost a decent bit of weight but I still use food as an escape route for certain thoughts and emotions, but I have developed much more of a mastery over it. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't blow some bloke in a McDonalds bathroom if he offered me every item on the Eurosaver menu. Then again, I don't have to, because there's an infinite variety of dopamine-rich, highly-palatable, easily-accessible and very low-cost foods which sooth my negative feelings.

I happen to think there's a lot of people in Ireland who have developed addictions to food, but they mistake this habit for gluttony and weakness because that's what our society tells them the problem is, and when they can't stop it only further embeds the feeling of inadequacy and low self-esteem which they were seeking to escape in the first place!

I don't know how we expect to solve an epidemic if we overlook the simple fact that obesity stems from long-term overeating, which in itself is a symptom of something greater, something sadder. Pains me to say it, but Ireland is going to hell in a handbasket lads.

Mentally, the internet and exercise. I just feel generally anxious and unhappy if I don't get a fair amount of both, and I become pretty unpleasant to be around. To me, that the real measure of an addiction: if it affects your personality when it's removed.

On a physical level, green tea and chocolate. If I don't have a little of both every day, I get headaches.

Someone made a good point about self control. I believe that self control and indeed strong self control cannot help against addiction. What I mean by that is that addiction is much more than wanting something. It is a need and then a release of dopamine when you get it. Without that actua want/need then you are not addicted. For me I am not addicted to anything. That is until alcohol is in my system. Then it’s like fear and loathing Las Vegas. For me the biggest addiction is gambling and only roulette. The noise of the ball clicking off the metal dividers just before it drops is the biggest rush for me that I cannot even explain.

So, I cannot put myself in that situation. It is like a different person and there is no sense. I have had over 20k in chips in my pocket and I still want that buzz of that noise. It is nothing to do with winning, it is knowing that I have money gambled and can hear that noise. For instance, I was in a Christmas party tonight where there were roulette tables and mock chips. I heard the noise and got nothing. Similarly I was in a casino and placed a considerable amount but had to take a phone call and missed the noise but won. Again nothing. Very difficult to explain unless you know. But the only driver is alcohol. Even just 4 pints.

My point is, it’s not self control. In my opinion anyway.

Chocolate. And after work beers. I'm not a massive drinker really, wouldn't be after drinking at home - but at the end of the day, a couple of beers on the way to the train chills me right out.

Food. It's a habit I picked up as a baby.

What I'm not addicted to would be a shorter list :p

Chocolate, sex, masturbation, my phone, boards and books are the main ones.

Oh edited to add that I have an addiction to Pepsi max and diet coke drinks in general, though I have cut down from about 3 litres a day to 500ml :o

I also get addicted to people sometimes which is a very unhealthy habit altogether. I can also be a bit addicted to gaming, if I get into a game I pretty much do nothing else for days on end.

Basically I overindulge in anything I really like :p
