I'm all for a War On Christmas if it means an end to the Gender War, or even Robot Wars.

We could just give peace a chance.

So I was driving by the Cadburys factory in Coolock and they have a big sign there for passing motorists... "Seasons Greetings" and some such.

Seasons Greetings has been in use in Ireland for decades (edit: I see as far back as Dickens according to someone else) . It's the Happy Holidays thing that gets me.

When I was growing in the 70s and 80s, Lemon's Sweets always had 'Seasons Greetings' on them. It was the main thing I remember about them, apart from the fact that there are only so many boiled sweets you should eat.

God they bring back memories, do they still exist?

Anyway, who cares what they say? It's an exercise in consumerism.
Wouldn't it be nice if people could come together as a group and just say no, and stop buying useless crap, even just for one Christmas? It should be about family and friends and kindness, not buying things.

Maybe some Bond villain could torpedo a bunch of the cargo ships making their way over from the Pearl River Delta. That would put a stop to a lot of the messing.

    +1

No more presents would not change Christmas for me.

A lot of multicultural countries use the slogan..I guess ireland is one of those countries now, I don't think its a big deal, I seriously doubt any non christians are offended by it but its polite. Or more likely a gimmick to increase sales

But I know a lot of normal americans and canadians who say happy holidays out of habit.

Does this multicult thing demand though that majority natives bend over on everything?
Because you have places like Dubai that can have a star treky feel with diversity on their streets etc., but they don't feel any need to move furniture around for newcomers.
Nor should they in my book. Calling Christmas, well Christmas, doesn't actually negatively impact on anybody's life, no matter who they are so I wouldn't even say it is anything to do with politeness.

I have a Christmas Card here from the 1890's that says 'Season's Greetings'. So not a PC issue at all.

I shall remind ye olde gentlemen, that there has always been war on Christmas. Why one of the most popular festive tunes around is 'Stop the Calvary'. Hand in hand they go.

Seeing a lot of "Happy Holidays" etc also. Is this simply a case of Businesses being overly PC at this time of year? Are they afraid they are going to offend someone by saying "Merry Christmas". If so, who are they offending

As long as I can still not go to work and stuff my face with Celebrations and cans on the big day, it doesn't effect my life what they call it one way or another.

Of all the sad tropes from righties, the whole war on Christmas thing has to be the most hilarious. Christmas has never been bigger. It is literally eating half the year, insane amounts of decorations, work does, socialising etc.

If you want to talk about a war, lets talk about the real war, the war on Halloween. Resist Christmas! Defend Halloween!

Surely the righties are the ones waging the war on Christmas.

Big bad capitalists hijacking a religious holiday and turning it into a spendathon.

Come January the poor plebs they fleece are up to their eyeballs in debt.

Not really in Ireland. Midwinter wasn’t big.

    So insignificant they built Newgrange.

I like the term Happy Christmas

Here is another reason these firms don't like Christmas it is the idea of giving that kills them.

I guess the most offensive thing about the Christian message to sweet manufactures is the story about Jesus with the fish and the loafs.:D

Since Cadbury are responsible for vast majority of most revolting chocolate available around Christmas (and Easter) their greetings are the least offensive part.

I happen to like Cadburys chocolate

A lot of natives aren’t linked to the foreign cult of Christianity.

Plenty of Chrimbo trees in Dubai so relax there.

Anyway fck Christmas. It declared war on our native midwinter celebrations.

Revenge is a dish best served cold!! :pac:

Ancient Celts didn’t really have mid winter celebrations. The main celebrations were mid solstice.

I don't really care if someone says Happy Holidays or Christmas or Saturnalia, I'll just take whatever good wishes are coming my way in the spirit of kindness they're intended.

I don't know why people have an issue with how it's worded when it's the intent that really matters.

    It isn't Cadbury's that's the problem. It's Mondelez

Some place in the States there's a sky scraper cubicle farm and you have people with whiteboards, excel sheets and powerpoint presentations carefully coming up with the optimum volume of chocolate per package as a profit maximising strategy in the hope that b1tch running it will give them a promotion so they can buy a new Cadillac next year.

Mondelondelez! Cadbury's is long dead, sold out and their former owners partying in the Bahamas till their funds or days run out.

I will never not say Merry Christmas, regardless of who I'm saying it to. If they get offended by my well wishes then I'll say "OK I take it back, have a terrible Christmas".

Christ some people are so f'in sensitive.

There are numerous religious holidays around December, they are trying to get money out of as many people as possible. Cadbury's is an international brand... get over it.

The thing is no one actually gives a shíte about this kind of crap but civil liberty and other wacko groups decide that people don't like it or are offended and make a fuss but in reality they don't actually represent anyone other than themselves. The media then drive these nonsense type stories claiming outrage etc etc when no one was actually outraged or gave a shíte about it.
