War on Christmas?

So I was driving by the Cadburys factory in Coolock and they have a big sign there for passing motorists... "Seasons Greetings" and some such.

Seeing a lot of "Happy Holidays" etc also. Is this simply a case of Businesses being overly PC at this time of year? Are they afraid they are going to offend someone by saying "Merry Christmas". If so, who are they offending

Seasons Greetings has been in use in Ireland for decades (edit: I see as far back as Dickens according to someone else) . It's the Happy Holidays thing that gets me.

Nor should they in my book. Calling Christmas, well Christmas, doesn't actually negatively impact on anybody's life, no matter who they are so I wouldn't even say it is anything to do with politeness.

As long as I can still not go to work and stuff my face with Celebrations and cans on the big day, it doesn't effect my life what they call it one way or another.

Here is another reason these firms don't like Christmas it is the idea of giving that kills them.

Since Cadbury are responsible for vast majority of most revolting chocolate available around Christmas (and Easter) their greetings are the least offensive part.

Ancient Celts didn’t really have mid winter celebrations. The main celebrations were mid solstice.

I don't really care if someone says Happy Holidays or Christmas or Saturnalia, I'll just take whatever good wishes are coming my way in the spirit of kindness they're intended.

I don't know why people have an issue with how it's worded when it's the intent that really matters.
