    EDIT:
Is there any reason why (apart from financial reasons) there are no double decker trains here?

yes, the loading gauge (bridge heights etc) are much smaller in the UK and Ireland than on the continent and the cost of rectifying all tunnels & bridges is too high

8am howth southbound vanished off the displays, not arrived so looks cancelled without any announcement from Irish rail at our station, Twitter etc, will be carnage on the next dart

Complaint going to be issued on this

8:15 from harmonstown cancelled this morning. Going to be fun trying to squeeze into the next one and it's more than 10 mins away.

My Dart southbound was bang on time today so I've gotten into work 75% of the time so far, this week.

08:41 from Howth this morning is 4 carriages, good few standing from Bayside. Last carriage will likely be much more full than the others as lots of people don’t seem to be expecting the short trains yet.

Some passengers at Killester have now been unable to board two successive trains due to overcrowding. Never seen that before in 8 years.

Twitter reports it as a train failure rather than a cancelllation.

Two in two days at rush hour. S'weird.

The 8:41 from howth needs to be rethought for sure.

Hasn’t really improved at Connolly like I hoped it might.

And yes I usually avoid the last carriages for that very reason, even though it doesn’t suit me being at the front getting off! The third carriage today is packed though, didn’t make much of a difference.

The whole timetable needs to be rethought. December might be interesting if it lasts to then.

on that 8:41 as well from Howth

    Joke Shop!

Waiting for the DART, a commuter inbound passed by.
There was plenty of room in it. And this is at rush hour.
I guess the missing people there are packing the DARTs.. or waiting on platforms

so your train arrived. what is the problem. Newsflash guys. At peak time trains are crowded. At peak time trains MUST be crowded. Time to change the seat configuration maybe? Or remove alot of the seats altogether.

If the DU tunnel were to have a wide enough bore to accommodate double decker trains, you would only have to replace five trafficked and one pedestrian bridges on the northern line to have a double decker service between Malahide/Howth and Hazelhatch. Unfortunately the south side line has a lot more restrictions. Raising those bridges on the northem side is much more realistic than adding tracks which often gets brought up.

interesting example of IR's commitment to punctuality last night. Got into Bray on the dart and had to change onto the Wexford train to continue to Greystones.

The Dart gets in on time, & the driver wanders off leaving the Dart at the platform. The following Wexford train is also showing as on time on the app. Eventually, 3 minutes after the Wexford train was due to arrive, the driver finally returns to move the Dart from the platform, presumably with the Wexford service sitting outside the station waiting. Eventually left Bray 8 minutes down.

(extra annoying as the Dart I was on used to continue to Greystones in the old timetable, it's presumably been curtailed to Bray in the new one to allow the Wexford train a clear run, this doesn't work if they just leave the train blocking the platform).

In fairness it was warned that a 10m service would spread existing capacity too thin. Would have expected this in the city center stations though not killester. Just goes to show the domino effect that happens when even one train fails and others just aint able to take up the slack.

Sucks to be there for those people but they probably shouldve gotten more rolling stock first.

They have a comparatively short period of an uncomfortable journey. Resources are finite. All we learn from Twitter is that one person is shockingly narcissistic and entitled.

because by the time it got to Harmonstown there were people unable to board and as shown above it was even worse at Killester and I could hear people saying that several trains had already passed full as well

Expecting to complete a journey you have paid for is being entitled now? you must work in irish rail management.

Can you not comprehend what's happening? They're having NO journey. They haven't been able to get on a single train for over half an hour. You think it's entitled to be annoyed at having to wait forty minutes to board a train at rush hour?!

OK I was wrong and above comments should be disregarded.

That smells a bit like work to rule.

Are driver grievances fully ironed out?

Yes, very much entitled to a decent reliable service. Is that too much to ask?

I agree that the service level provided to that woman today is unacceptable.

In a word from an excellent source: no.

    that did occur to me.

As others have pointed out, the timetable is now so padded trains are having to wait several minutes at stations to avoid running early. This despite Irish Rails already slack dwell times.
