I think if we keep the transmission rate low & by default the numbers requiring access to ICU low then we'll see a close enough return to normality by then. The pubs and large gatherings being the ongoing casualties.

Hopefully in that time treatment(s) will be identified that work better allowing the additional time it may take for a vaccine to be developed, which may never in reality. We cant stay in this economic slumber forever so at some stage a managed return, but living with the virus, will be required. We have to work on the basis therer may never be a vaccine, then if we do find one its a bonus.

BTW, dont go near the covid19 forum... its the 100% oposite to this one, the infighting & sniping is outrageous. Not a happy place at all.

Hopefully you're right. At the minute I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable being on a packed train or bus. I certainly don't miss pubs and don't really attend much live major sport these day so neither of those would be a big loss for me.

Would be great if we could meet with family and friends in small numbers and be able to socialise in a responsible way.

I think even more people will do Christmas shopping online, do Santa visits etc in smaller less packed venues and will most likely be an end of the 12 pubs type of thing (for this year at least).

I use to read it near the start and then stopped as was turning into a train wreak. Who knew we had so many virologists and they all post on Boards!!

As I've said before, if it wasn't for the Christmas forum I'd not bother with Boards at all. The other sections are full to the brim with keyboard warriors & expecrts on everything. I get enough grief & stress in work to bother with dwlving into the majority of the other forums nowadays.

Thankfully we have 2 mods in Loughc & Posy that keep this place sensible, and to be fair we seem to have a nice bunch of regular posters that seem similar in outlook, maybe being christmas fans we're more positive or something, i dunno!?

Either way, heres my home on boards & thats the way it'll stay.

I use to follow and post in a number of different forums in years gone by. Mainly things I was either interested in or needed help/advise on. However as time has gone on, less time on the 'net in general, it's really just here and the Trump thread (my dirty little secret- I can't stand him mind, it's more the car crash that he is that means I cant look away!) that I follow.

As you said DvB I think it's the small group of regulars, all like minded, with great moding, that makes this an enjoyable place to come and converse on not just our shared passion but life in general.

Oh I adore cinnamon!! 99% of my Yankee candles are the Cinnamon ones and they're not just for Christmas!

Feeling a bit stressed today. Someone very close to me who should be cocooning decided they'd have enough and would be more useful out and about. I'm furious and terrified in equal parts.

Makes you wonder, assuming there is no wide spread vaccine before Christmas, what do you guys think could be different for the Christmas period?? i.e. staying 2 meters from Santa :(

I don't think anyone will be sitting on Santa's lap this year!!

Die Hard is a Christmas Movie.
    Fake trees all the way.
    Cinnamon is the devil,
Mince Pies are the spawn of the devil.

I think that's all covered off.

I don't like mice pies, or bat soup, actually. :pac:

Die Hard is the only one I feel strongly about (IT IS A CHRISTMAS FILM), however. I don't mind what trees people have or what they eat. :)

-Die Hard: I consider it a Christmas movie but I also consider stuff such as the first Bridget Jones Diary a Christmas movie.
-Real v Fake trees: Fake for me, I generally find you can put more stuff on it.
-Cinnamon: I love cinnamon in food but I only find it okay in candles, etc I'm a guy and scented candles aren't really aimed at me. The one's I like would be musky, etc.
-Mice Pies: Yes, prefer puff pastry.

Mince pies are the business, cinnamon is in many a fruity delight so no issues there, fake trees suit me, so no issue there either, but, as long as I'm alive and kicking I'm not having diehard as a Christmas movie, not a chance, though I'm not militant about it so if others consider it so that's their folly but rock on, live and let live.

We're a third of the year through already guys. This time eight months it's Christmas Day. That's both exciting and scary at the same time.

Die Hard is a Christmas Movie.
Fake trees as its too hot for a real one and its bad for the enviro to ship it here.
Cinnamon is the devil except in mulled wine where I can't taste it.
Mince Pies are give and take, and only the GF ones.

We had the debate over the weekend that my OH may want to go home from Christmas this year rather than stay here as planned. It's a prickly one as I have had to veto some planned leave as everyone was trying to take 2-3 weeks off for Christmas as they can't travel abroad presently. So I can't exactly do what I have asked others not to. So I may be home alone for Christmas.

We are allowed our for two hours a day in a group no more than 3 but you have to wear a mask at all times. I tired a jog with a surgical mask, planned a slow 6km but had to pull up at 4.6km as I couldn't breath.

    Oh, that sounds tough!
Although it's about 4.5km more than I could manage. :pac:

What's the weather like over there now?
