    Isn't Strauss injured?

Yes - calf injury. Also, isn't he firmly third or fourth choice at the moment?

Nothing to surprising there although it's a massive blow to lose McGrath. Outside of Sexton, no other player's absence has the same impact.

JGP needs to have the game of his Leinster career at the weekend.

    Does he?

I think he needs to be accurate and limit the mistakes and it will be grand. He's played some terrific stuff at times and has been a good link man for some of our tries this season, but I think he just needs to do the basics right at the weekend and we'll be fine.

My greater concern is if he tries too hard and executes poorly or wastes possession.

I think his standard game involved a lot of kicking the ball away very poorly. If he goes about that again with these overlong, uncontestable kicks to their back line, we're going to suffer for it. Munster at Christmas was the best I've seen him this season and he'll need to replicate that at a minimum.

He needs to go out there with the instruction to play it simple and keep it tight. Don't give them any useful ball and let Sexton boss things.

How many times has JGP played with Sexton? I'd be as worried about the 2 lads not being all that familiar with each other

Is McCarthy that ordinary that no one would rather the trade-off of having Lowe in the side?

Mccarthy would be acceptable to me but what if he gets injured early. Still need JGP in the event that happens

McCarthy, no. Probably a bit green for Semi final rugby but could do a job if he was minded

Charlie Rock, the option we would have to put on the bench, has not shown any inclination that he is ready for Pro14 rugby, let alone Champions Cup knockout rugby

Nacewa and McFadden on the wings is strong defensively but limited offensively. I think Lowe will be missed if that team is true.

    lowe is an obvious loss.

nothing to be done about it.. cant have rock as bench 9

Lowe is a huge loss. Takes so much creativity and threat out of the team. Henshaw back would be great though. And he's a player I'd have no real concern over coming back in after a layoff.

Yeah I know its all about contingencies and cover on the bench is key. We will still beat then, id just love love love to see Lowe Ringrose and Henshaw together making complete mugs out of quality defenders.

Nacewa on the wing kind of worries me, memories of the semi last year come to mind.

    Larmour on the other wing.

    Thats just pornography.

Mind you, if its to be a genuine tilt at the double, thats what it will take

To be fair, a fully fit backline of McGrath, Sexton, Lowe, Ringrose, Henshaw, Larmour, Kearney is as good as you will see anywhere. It's absolute filth and you're leaving out guys like Nacewa, McFaddan, Adam Byrne and Darragh Fanning.

And our pack are even more stacked with quality.

Jesus we need to win something.

Good back and watch Mccarthy vs Saracens. He is way off. Terrible decisions made around box kicking and poor execution. Turnover ball kicked out on the full was the worst of them but there were around 5 others that just gave up possession cheaply.

ROC just said on OTB that he believes McGrath is fit.

Do you go way left field and break glass in emergency and have Carbery as sub 9 as he ran a bit at 9 in Irish camp and Leinster trainings as well?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 3,585 ✭✭✭irishfan9
