It would be interesting to know how many of these people living (for free) in hotels have been offered houses but have refused to take them.

I'd suggest quite a few of them are trying to play the system like this Erica one did.

can't be done like that as it would cause undue hardship to people, who may be refusing the house for actual genuine reasons. + it would probably cost us more in the long run.

ticking a box on a form does not make you of a religion.

the genuine reason for turning down a not free but subsidized house could be anti-social behaviour or other criminal behaviour being a huge problem in the area.

So picking and choosing then. Thought so.

I don't get that logic. If there's criminal behavior, then wouldn't the Gardai have marked the house as being unsafe (therefore not being on a list for them to move into), or dealt with the criminal behavior itself.

Can you expand on anti-social behaviour as a reason?

Lastly, how do these people know there is such terrible behavior happening before they move in?

EDIT: Seems strange that the area is fine for everyone else living in that area... should they be offered a house in other areas in compensation?

One of conditions of moving from hotels\B&B into family hubs is that agree to look for private rented and not try to wait for local authority housing.Anyone in a family hub is getting support off social care workers and housing officers.

At this stage those refusing family hubs and staying in hotels/b&b.s. are really just kidding themselves.

But surely 'everyone' deserves the same opportunities as everyone else? I presume you do not exclude the criminally disadvantaged on the basis that they too are deprived? Surely mixed social housing was conceived so that we would have communities comprising all elements of society irrespective of such prejudice? Is not everyone deserving of a second chance? I am truely shocked at your attitude ...

Their CEO was interviewed on Newatalk today its was very interesting. The housing association operates mostly in the market between social housing and private ownership, because its an NGO supported by the state and private finance it can do a better job that the councils, better at maintaining the housing better and quicker dealing with anti social behaviour. The maximum rent they charge is 100 a week and its a tenancy for life. They keep the rent at that level to ensure a good social mix.

There are solutions that are working but as he said the public often do not hear about them or they get drowned out in the shrill about the homeless.
