As with this time last year, the Amazon Kids Edition Tablets are on sale. They were not reduced for Black Friday I think so now is the best time to buy (I did this time last year).

    7” is now £79.99 (£20 off)
    8” is now £99.99 (£30 off)

The 8” looks worth the extra £20. Shipping to Parcel Motel etc.

All the information is on the Amazon site!

    Basically:
2 year “if they break it, we’ll replace it” warranty
    Bumper case
1 year subscription to their kids content so loads of free apps
    Kid friendly UI

    Worth every penny.

Wait til your kids get used to the apps and then you have to pay for them after the free period. :)

The videos don’t work but everything else does. I disabled the videos but installed Netflix.

My son broke his 4 times over last 2 years , replaced by amazon with no questions asked. Its worth the price if your child is young. My son was 2 when he got his.

Do these get any cheaper during the Black Friday sales or is this as cheap as they got last year?

Argos had them cheaper a while back we got one for €30 something

Gatling, you sure you are talking about the kids versions at €30 something? I tracked these for a good bit and never saw them below the prices the OP has listed. I think you may be talking about the non kids versions which you can pick up around half the price which would make more sense.

I haven't gotten one yet, will be ordering one. But there is a slightly involved way to side load the Google Play Store onto these devices and thus install youtube kids or any other app on them. Details here:

Me too bargain price, bought the 8" normal one last year as a Christmas present and they're great for the kids. Hence the need for a new one from Santa!!

So dangerous, don't put it on. I took it off both of mine. The content might look child friendly because it's animated. But it's not.

After I took it off, I read an article people are targeting it because they know kids use it. Sad but true :-(

Have a look at it you'll see the vids look harmless but next thing Sponge Bob is on the ground in a pool of blood with his head chopped off...

While I'm glad it's shut him up. It's not great for a 3 year old to see

Anyone having charge port issues on the newer ones? One of my two has gone back to Amazon 4 times under warranty, the charge port stopped working. I really should have sent the second one back before it expired.

To charge them now, I've to lean them up against a wall. Anyone seeing that on the newer ones?

    I might replace one...

Android devices seem to be absolutely plagued with this issue. A variety of my families Moto phones less then a year old have had the same issue, two Moto g4's etc.

Such a pain, you need to replace them about once a year!

I've found that the Amazon microUSB cables that are supplied with the tablets are crap. I've bought a 5 pack of both Anker and Aukey and they are far better quality.

    mikeysmith wrote: »

I did that, didn't work unfortunately. The port is so wobbly that the magnetic port just falls out and doesn't stay at the right angle to charge it

It's a deal breaker for me on the kindles, no matter what the price. the kids have kept their in pretty good nick (I told them they wouldn't be replaced just like that) and despite that I'm looking at replacing both, even though they are both perfect bar the charge port.

I've changed the charge port on a few items before. i think I might do some googling and see how easy it is on the kindles

I regret ever getting a tablet for my 5 year old from Santa. He spends so much time on it over the last couple of years. It has become a source of friction. It's also very hard to monitor what they are doing on it.

You can get wifi routers that monitor everything that is done on them and which records and limits how much time a day the device is used.

That's one thing the kindles are great for. Set up the child profile, set the limits and that's it. no more about it then.once it's off it's off and it leaves the child nowhere to go as they don't be long realising that it's the kindle is doing it not mammy or daddy... it's set by a random stranger in my kids eyes, I never bothered to correct them :D

Also you can completely lock it down, they only see what you want them to see. it takes a bit of time but it's definitely worth doing.

just to note I didn't buy the kindles for kids, i just bought the ordinary one and set up the profiles myself.

Was going to get one for kids but saw Adrian weckler say it’s crap and £29 is about a fair price for it.

I assume you are referring to just the 7” tablet and not the whole Kids Edition package. My 3 kids love it so I would argue that they would be the target audience and not Adrian Weckler....

Hi all, looking to buy the Amazon Fire 8".
Can anyone tell me specifically what restrictions there are on the "Fire For Kids Unlimited" subscription for Irish users? And what functionality does the tablet have once the subscription expires (and not renewed)?
    Thanks!

I know about using Parcel Motel etc. to get around the 'does not ship to Ireland' bit, but how does the 'if they break it, return it and we'll replace it for free' bit work ??

But they do ship Kindles here so why even bother only if it's just for one day shipping on Prime ?

On all the Kindle Kids Editions its coming up as 'Does not ship to Ireland' , for me at least.

Regular Kindles are not showing this.

Send it through An Post if it breaks and Amazon will refund the postage cost. Had to replace 3 :o

Other half's tablet broke a week ago they've been using the kids fire. Disaster for a grown up to use, when used to proper android

For a young kid it's perfect, they know no different. They don't even realise the child's profile is so locked down. That said my 8 year old is definitely starting to moan about not having full access to YouTube, but she still uses it quite happily when having the option of that or nothing

So bar the charge port issue it really is perfect for kids but that said I've decided I won't be buying another...

Looking for an entry level tablet for parents to use for browsing on net. Haven't found the Kindle fire the most user friendly so wondering what other tablets out there people would recommend at good price

There's a guide on howtogeek.com on how to get the full Google app store on Fire devices. Sorry haven't got the URL handy.

I bought 2 of the fire hd 8 kids edition tablets but can't get the unlimited subscription working properly. Are these locked down to not work properly here?
When in the kids profile, apps/books/characters part won't make any suggestions, although it will show ones you have manually downloaded and shared to the kids. Am I doing something wrong?

was it much hassle to get it sorted? I've ordered one for a Christmas present and slightly worried that it will be tricky to get the fire kids set up

I found the Play Store set up to be a simple task and should be for anybody. There's 4 things to install and must be installed in order. If you forget to select the settings option to allow installs from third parties the first install you click will send you straight there to tick the box and then you can just press the BOX button to switch apps back(the light up button the bottom of the tablet, the one on the right- I just called it the box button because it's box shaped) to the Install and continue one install at a time.

Boom, it's done. I did 2 Tablets on Monday previous. One 7 and one 8HD.

I also suggest updating the tablet soon afterwards. There was an update for each of them but i had to go into settings to get the Tablet to search for it. You don't need to but why not start on the most up to date Software I say.

if you're gonna be sideloading apps that Amazon prefer that you don't (like the play store) it's probably best to turn off automatic updates because you never know when they'll bring an update that will make it much harder to customise the tablet

I 'think' you can send stuff to the UK with Parcel Motel, not 100% sure but worth checking out, alternatively just don't tell An Post what it is.

No once I had a read of this thread it was easy. Make sure your Amazon address and account are set to UK.

Haven't set up play store yet through. Didn't do my research properly before buying them and the lack of inbuilt YouTube kids app is a big drawback
