Great to see someone from this island winning world championships again. Its disgraceful that RTE won't give it the time of day to report on it. The O'Donovans get a whole load of airtime and its fcuking rowing, surely biking is as popular?

Anyway, congratulations to a well deserved world champion!

    He's not Irish.......

RTE mentioned him once before a few months ago. Thats because they had no other sports news to report on,like some no name athlete comming 25th out of 30 in a race in Nigeria or somewhere like that.

He identifies as a Brit, no Irish person would race under a union jack and stand on the podium with God Save the Queen FFS.

Why is it that when anyone from Northern Ireland does well their achievements get put on the back burner and it turns into a debate on what flag they compete under ?

Well the "not Irish" comment was posted in response to a post about RTE not covering it.

It's the same reason that on the BBC weather all the sunshine stops at Newry. :pac:

    WSS championship blown wide open.
Keenan Swafoglu out for rest of season with a broken hip, after a bad fall in qualifying.

4 riders are in contention now for the championship after this mornings WSS race in France.

Looking forward to seeing Johny Rae racing in SBK Race 2 later on. Wonder will he take it handy,or really let loose and go balls to the wall racing?

BSB Race 1 also just about to start now, live from Assen on British Eurosport 2

Nasty crash involving Laverty and Rae.
Hope Eugene is ok.....very lucky not to be run over by other riders.
Rae's rear brake caliper snapped off and his boot allmost off his foot from the impact.

Marco Melandri's girlfriend........bloody hell shes tall, and rather pretty too.

A short girlfriend would be pretty useless on the grid. Nobody would be able to get under the umbrella to give interviews. :D

Those Supersport 300 riders are just nutts.

More like bumper cars the way they are all swapping paint with each other.

Belter of a race so far.

Rea and Sofuoğlu both need to move up. Big fish in small ponds makes for very boring racing.
Rea should replace Iannone on the factory Suzuki if he has any ambition.

Rae did race in MotoGP briefly for Honda, but Honda kinda shafted him in the end.And he mentioned that quite alot when interviewed about his Kawasaki contract in SBK

Keenan went to SBK and also Moto2 but he didnt do too well there.
So back WSS where he seems to be able to race the bike.

    Strange,isnt it.......

Maybe he will go to MotoGP again though.

Career suicide, if Rea goes to the gp it has to be on proven competitive machinery.

Yup, yet both get high profile mention on RTE, shouldn't a man for the same Island at least get a note for winning a world championship???

FFS Eugene Laverty could win a race and not get a mention on RTE,
Vile Nugent is head of sport there, all he cares about is Rugby.
Anyway Congratulations to Jonny Rea, he comes from a bike racing family, His grandfather had Rea Racing and had a certain Joey Dunlop as one of his riders.
Its a well deserved victory and you can only wonder where he might be now if he had jumped off the Corporate ship called Honda before now.
GP is a very different animal to WSBK, its much more corporate and high pressure, not as friendly a paddock for family either.
I hope it can re-invent itself and make a success of it, its always been this way though. Remember how big world supers were in the 90's ? They were huge compared to GP back then.
JR could go to MGP and get a second rate ride and finish midpack at best.
You need top flight machinery or you won't get a chance at a win.
Once the factories get data on the new tracks and Michelins then it will start to be more predictable IMHO.

Jesus some ****e talked. At the end of the day the sport we like is a minority sport, golfing, horses, GAA, F1 and soccer have much wider fanbases. These news shows only have a certain amount of time they can mention sports that the public at large are interested in.

The fact he isnt mentioned reflects the fact that the majority of the country doesnt give a toss. If he was from this country then he would have a better chance of getting a mention but it wouldn't guarantee it, I would think he would though.

Him winning this title is about as relevant as Lorenzo winning a moto gp title for the Irish news. He a northerner who considers himself British and races under a union jack and the majority of the public dont care, thats the reality.

As for the achievement, I like SBK , the racing is exciting, moreso than Moto GP but its the equivalent of winning the championship in football and refusing to be promoted to the premier league.

The most talented riders from throughout the world all ride in moto gp, In the main but not always SBK is made up of riders that couldn't cut it in Moto GP or riders who were too good for BSB but not good enough for Moto GP. If people accuse Moto GP of being a mainly Spanish comp with Dorna skewing it with Spanish riders then the same argument could be made for the brits and WSB who Dorna seem to give free reign to.

Rea had numerous opportunities to move throughout the years and didn't take them, I wouldnt have either because he had financial stability in SBK that he wouldn't have had in Moto GP so I understand his motives.

Is he more talented than Marquez, Rossi, Vinales, Pedrosa, Stoner, Lorenzo et all, NO.

Would he be competitive , yes he would and before someone brings up the tests where he lapped faster than Moto GP riders on a certain test track, there was mitigating circumstances that are ignored.

Its actually interesting, if a football player is clearly very talented but plays in a rubbish league how do you rate his career?
Rossi took the risk moving from Honda to Yamaha and will be respected forever because of it, Rae never took the risk to move to Moto GP and that will always be a stain on his career IMO, no doubt a good rider but nowhere near a great one. 3 WSB titles no doubt but he's ain't anywhere near that good a rider, wouldn't race against the best and is happy to be a big fish in a **** pond.

Congrats to him though, fine rider.

Do you realise how big horse racing is in this country to both the economy and as a fanbase sport, actually think.

General public give a hoot about one of the most famous jockies in the world winning l’Arc de Triomphe , one of the 3 biggest and most historic races in the year or some lad they have never heard of winning a title in a sport they dont care about.

Its not worth getting upset over the fact he isnt mentioned haha, it reflects what the general population are interested in. FYI I have no interest in horse racing at all but If I was an RTE news producer id say I would learn pretty fast :)

And again, more of the general public would prefer to hear about how that race went than the WSB championship so thats what RTE cover.

Yeah seems like thats the case when it comes to RTE News.

Ah well,im delighted for Johny Rae.

Also puts the international media spotlight on the new track in Coalisland with Johny being from Ballymena and now a 3 time in a row SBK World Champion.

I doubt that, RTE decides what people 'want' to hear about, things are changing though; Rossi and Marquez are getting time on RTE sport, I know tgat's different but it does raise the profile and interest.
I have no probs with bog ball and stick ball getting the headlines, numbers demand that but local (and it is local) achievement should get some mention.

Stewy I need new tyres, I know you posted about getting tyres from cotters before. Did you see much of a difference between buying online and getting them fitted yourself or getting everything from cotters?

    Im thinking Michelin pilot 4

To be honest i just whipped the wheels off the bike and brought them down to Cotters.
Other times ive just ridden down on the bike. Less hassle involved.
Theres some deals at the moment with 35 euro cash back on certain brands of tyres..
