I'd agree with MBs opinion on the Irish Decathlon store being a bit underwhelming. I've been in their stores all over France and their Ballymun "flagship" is frankly akin to a branch you'd find in a small regional city.

That said, I'd agree on the quality over Aldi/Lidl if there's one that's in striking distance.

to be fair, the range of products in decathlon was higher a couple of years ago. it seems to ebb and flow.

You should see the one in Limerick, XS or XXL sizes only for years now, literally no reason to go in there because nothing you want will be in stock, a manager told me they have no control over what comes on the deliveries.

the store in dublin, at times over the last few years, has had no drop handlebar road bikes except one display model of the top end van rysel which was just there to be wallpaper.

That floor pump gets cheaper every year for some reason.

there is two versions - the one with the plastic box with the football and airbed attachments attached is much less robust than the other.

This is the less robust one.

All of these items are 20% cheaper with the Lidl plus app too.

Does anybody know what price the helmet in Lidl is? Don't see it on the flyer but it's advertised on the app without the price.

The cheap one is MTB/footballs etc, the "expensive" one is a high pressure version.

the lidl rear light does not flash so I don't think its very useful..

the one in the screenshot above? they're only €2.99 for a pair, i'd say they're good for emergency use only.

Flashing lights, despite peoples feelings, are not objectively any more visible than solid lights as far as I know. Maybe there is now data out there to disagree with this but the last time I read up on it, if the flash was too far apart it actually made judging distance harder.

Tell you what, some winter nights, cycling behind someone with one of those flashing red lights, or cycling towards someone with the flashing white LEDs, gets seriously annoying and distracting!

Id agree they can get to be a bit much, but at the power level of the lidl light, not an issue. slow flash or pulse I do believe is more noticeable.

Precisely because the lights on other elements of traffic - cars, buses, motorcycles - do not flash.

A fast but irregular/variable rate flashing light would seem optimal to distinguish from other forms of traffic?

In Germany, flashing bicycle lights are generally prohibited, especially after dark. The German StVZO (Road Traffic Licensing Regulations) mandates that bicycle lights must have a steady beam, both front and rear.

buy any lights from a german shop and they wont have a flash function

maybe in Germany that makes sense. Rather have something that catches more attention over here.

One huge benefit of flashing is battery life. My Garmin rear would never last a long spin til I started using it on flash mode and I've had it now on up to 6 hours and still not dead getting in home. On solid beam it would do 3 hours ish and cut out before the end of the spin.

That seems… very short? I've a decent front LED rechargeable that I only need to recharge every 200km or so 0- admittedly I use the low setting, but it's continuous. The integrated helmet light I have, I usually set to flashing (5 or 6 LEDs) and I've had it four years now, never needed to recharge it! I'm only using it for a 20km commute, once a week, plus the occasional 10k or 20k leisure cycle, but still.
