I dont’t really see whats so “mad” about it?

One is a highly strung and tuned 1.0 litre 3 cylinder petrol and the other is an intentionally de-tuned 2.0 diesel engine.

Just two very different ways of outputting 115bhp, not really comparable to one another.

    True,

I wish my mam's 1.0 3 cylinder Yaris was as highly strung as it, because the Skoda was very compatible to a 1.6/1.8 diesel

Historically the BMW model badge in Germany was an option you had to pay for, many Germans never bothered with that option. And cars had to be paid by cash only!

Every single option had to be paid for in Germany, including electric windows, while export models had many options as standard.
That's always been like this. Many manufacturers did that.

Now the price difference here between a 320d and a 330d and 520d and 530d is around 10.000 euros.
What's the point? You would very rarely use that power. Yeah would be nice to have when needed but comes at a serious extra cost.

Car taxes, gas prices etc are pushing people to purchase small engines anyway. Can't blame them for that.

As for badge removal, means nothing. I prefer to see no badge than a stupid ///M3, or ///M5 badge on a 3/5 series or even RS4 badge on a 1.9TDI A4
