I asked this very question yesterday and was told the anthem is only played once on each match day.

It wasn’t played before our game so assume it was for the 2nd one.

Anthem was played before the second match yesterday and today.

Jesus I must have been delirious after the Kerry game so. I don't even remember it.

    Thanks for clearing it up

No worries, I was trying to bring myself back down to earth as it was playing!

I see Kerry can only play Derry or Monaghan after Derry winning today. Due to them playing each other already. So will be another physical semi final

    So Derry it is.

They'll be more solid defensively than Tyrone and looking to go one better than last year. Hopefully we can take more advantage early in the game than Cork did today.

    Sunday 16th July. 4pm.

An absolutely brutal time for a Kerry v Derry game. 2pm would have been the ideal time given the distance required to travel for both sets of fans. Stick the junior final on earlier or later.

But at least people can start to make plans now.

anyone think tom o'sullivan is a candidate for footballer of the year , he deserves a shout at this stage

🙄🙄🙄 right bout Mayo.. no surprise.. wrong about Clifford... would anyone have believed you if you said Tyrone would be bet out the gate before d Clifford would have his 1st score from play...

It's a half an hour later than an All Ireland final.

Kerry have played loads of 4pm Sundays in the double header era.

I don't see what the big deal is.

I would not. Jason Foley should have got MOTM last two games. Everybody looks at the forward or midfield players.

It's easy to play like that when you have a FB like Jason Foley behind you.

While technically TOS is a better defender, Graham O'Sullivan was immense Saturday. The f@@ker has a 2 meter stride. He carried a sh!t load of ball forward and took and gave passes. Not a great scorer, however his great strength is he realises that, he is immense. His league performance was massive this year.

Looking back to the League this year JF, GoS, Morley,PM, BarryDan, JB, DM all did the hard yards, honourable mention to AS before he got injured.

But TOS is miles off POTY for Kerry.

stats wise he is in the mix , foley has his flaws , while morley and o sullivan were top class this weekend its not always been rosey in the garden, as i say look its statts wise more then anything else , he has been as good in my opinion as what you mentioned , kicked a boomer yesterday and kept his men scoreless again it is a trait with him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,689 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

Also, the most likely POY kicked 6 wides from play yesterday and just one point from play

I am just looking at it from a stats point of view, Sean Kelly was in the mix last year didn't show as well as tom Sullivan

Darragh Canavan scored two points off O'Sullivan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,628 ✭✭✭dobman88

Apart from Canavan scoring 2 points off him, what are the stats you keep referencing compared to other players?

He wouldn't be in POTY talk for me, as much as I love him. But if you have stats to back it up, I'd be keen to see them.

TOS is having an average year at present. Foley and GOS have been the outstanding players defence wise since the start of the league. GOS was out of position in the mayo match and have much more played than most other players this year

Every player has average matches. Mind you Saturday Clifford was double tagged any time he was near the ball. This allowed other players space notably SOS and DOC .

But the workrate of the FB line was very important as well.

You must be watching replays from a few years ago. Tom O Sullivan an excellent defender who always pops up with a score. He held Darragh Canavan brilliantly Saturday but overall he is having a good season so far, not great and certainly not in top 20 players in the country to be considered POTY.

Jason Foley has been our best defender by a long way this year. You mentioned he has weak areas, I completely disagree. He has been strong in every department so far this year and if Kerry make the final is nailed on for All Star full back. Unlike lots of defenders from other teams, he wins ball with skilled tackling rather than just assaulting fellas.

I thought Graham O Sullivan was marking Mattie Donnelly Saturday, not R Canavan? Looked like Paul Murphy on Canavan… Graham had a stormer of a game.

POTY will be decided really on the quarters, semi and final so hard to pick yet. Semi final winners will whittle it down to 5 or 6 options from those two teams.

So far you have Glass from Derry, McCarthy and Basquel from Dublin, O Connor and Foley from Kerry and maybe McCarthy from Monaghan as the front of the pack. But a big semi final from Clifford, O Shea, McGuigan, O Callaghan,Fenton,Rogers,McKinless,Mohan,Beggan etc could easy push them to the top of the list. In short talking about POTY now is pointless.

If it did come to a Kerry Dublin final, Foley v Con could be a super battle

Derry havent played well in croke park... but 20yrs ago a tyrone team came into an semi-final as underdogs against kerry we know how that played out.. 10yrs ago donegal came along and beat kerry in a quarter final after kerry had annihilated tyrone in killarney... so Kerry players and supporters will have to be focused on the job in hand rather than looking ahead. Derry will be tricky.

I think I would agree with you these sort of games can be tricky and assuming you will win can cause compliancy. Derry have got to the SF and have played well along the way they will probably improve again for this game.

I would not be taking anything for granted

Yeah, I expect Kerry to give them the respect anyone deserves for getting this far in back to back years and winning provincial finals on both occasions.

But they don't score enough, and they won't score enough against a Kerry defense if they played the way they played last week v Tyrone.

And as we know Kerry can score a lot.

It would be a serious kick in the teeth for Kerry if they could not get past Derry, especially after resurrecting themselves after the Mayo game.

Derry have a serious MF so if they can deprive Kerry of primary possession, they could cause problems. The thing is though, they'd need to push up on Kerry's kickouts to really cause problems and I doubt they'll be brave enough to do that.

The choice of seating on Ticketmaster is very poor, where have all the central tickets gone to?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,628 ✭✭✭dobman88

We got 306 yesterday, on the halfway line. Bit low down but Happy enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,621 ✭✭✭wonga77

All I have seen is 336 right in the corner, Hill or behind the goal on the Davin end?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,628 ✭✭✭dobman88

Sorry, you're talking about general sale so? We have season tickets and just about the only benefit left to them is a central ticket.

With this game unlikely to sell out (they haven't even opened the upper deck for sale yet) you might be better off waiting until meet week when unbought season tickets are released into the general sale. Maybe even a decent Hogan ticket would come available

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,241 ✭✭✭The_Honeybadger

This ^^ I made the mistake of buying poor tickets in the Davin for the Dublin semi last year only to see batches of much better tickets become available midweek before the game.

Not a hope it sells out as you say, so I am going to wait and see what is available in the coming days and in to next week.
