Looking for a light aluminium frame road bike with carbon forks.Looking for something with 25mm tyres aswell. Have a budget of 600€ so I realise that I might need to buy second hand. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Planet X have one with Tiagra group set for €60 over budget

    https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/EBPX58TI/planet-x-rt-58-v2-alloy-shimano-tiagra-road-bike

They have it with a Sora group set for €599.
I'd go for Tiagra for the extra 60 yo-yos.

That's cracking value... I came on to recommend a trek on adverts that looks great value(and prob is)... but a new bike with that spec for 600 is hard to look past.
OP make sure you get the right size.
    Marty.

How would the PX match against this 2nd hand Focus 105?

Use the code prautumn1720 to bring it down another £100.

Works out around €520 delivered for tiagra if you pay in sterling.

That's a 20% off voucher? Might be worth adding a few bits if getting one.

Bikes are pretty much unisex these days right? I mean an XS on these would be OK for a 5'3'' lady? Seriously thinking about getting herself one at this price.

:) I'm gonna try and have a look at it tomorrow as it in my neck of the woods. If it's gone then the PX isn't a bad fall back.

OK so the Focus was a dead duck. I am looking at that RT-58 but unsure on sizing. Are these frames more compact?

(Sorry for hijacking the thread R.dufy454773)

What was wrong with the focus?

It was Small instead of the Medium advertised.

And what height are you?... are you in proportion?(do you have long legs/short torso etc)

Sorry thought I included that. I'm 5'8.5 with an inside leg of 31". Legs are longer than torso so leaning towards a Medium in the RT58.

Here's the geometry for that Cayo (I think)
    https://www.focus-bikes.com/int/23916-cayo-al-105.html

Top tube is 537mm, are you sure it's too small?

Forget about your leg length...saddle can go up and down to fit that...distance between your behind and the handlebars is less moveable...however a longer stem for 25 Euro will push that out if needed.

    Marty.

Would people recommend the Planet X over the Felt Z85? With the discount £470 for the former vs €580 for the Felt.

The felt would be the better of the 2 imo but the focus would still be the best of them all.

I was going to post that felt earlier. I see canyon are having their end of season sale aswell.

    Felt for me too!

Tubeless ready wheels would help swing it for me.

    Also looks better imo!

Use ParcelWizard instead. Parcel Motel will accept the delivery but you will be charged for an out of locker delivery. Not sure on cost as I've never used it

Its only €10-20 i cant remember I used it once. You have to collect from their headquarters in Dublin though.

Ah didn't know that. DPD is the way to go so. Use the UK address and then have it delivered to the house.

At these prices, it makes doing the BTW scheme pointless unless obviously you can buy online with it.
My company only uses vouchers so only LBS for me.
I've a year and half left before mine comes around again but ill probably not use it.

    Good man.
My two sons and I have 5 Planet Xs between us (and about 10 others)
    All have given great service.
I'm sure, you won't be disappointed.

I'm 5'8 with 30" inside leg. I had thought the large would fit better going by the sizings given.

I went for the medium. My bottom is longer than my top so I went for the smaller size. As someone said on here you can raise height but length is more difficult. I specd it against my older bike which I was comfortable on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,373 ✭✭✭iwillhtfu

Large sounds far to big for someone of 5'8" and 30" inseam.

Keep in mind it's easier to make a small frame fit you and near impossible to make a bigger frame fit you.

I measured up my raleigh which is a 54cm and its more a medium on the planet x. Funny how things differ from bike to bike

    Just to update.
I ordered the medium today after talking to planetx in athlone. He was the same size as me so was able to measure against it.

Unsurprisingly, the UK store came back to me again with a large.

If I don't see it this week, I'll see in in a month:)
Thanks to all for the advice.

Another question..is it possible to swap it out and put on disk brakes!

    Nope totally different frame.

So you may as well order another while you're at it :D

The wife would kill me if I bought anything else!
I'm giving her my old bike...or maybe selling it if she insists:)

Are Halford's worth trusting? Are they bike specialists ?Looking to get a racer on budget myself , and saw a decent 18 Gear bike for around €600 (or less)
