No need to apologise lads. Tis a training log not a "thread" so no such thing as derailing. As I said to one of the lads at work today, I could talk about runners all day.

Was very close to buying a pair of Brooks Ghost at xmas but the size were just a tad small and they didnt have my exact size.

I have to say I'm guilty of stalking peoples Strava gear section to see what runners they have.

Impressive collection J! Surprisingly its the ladies who have kept it pretty conservative in terms of quantity and its the lads that have loads of pairs. haha

Ah we’re ok yet lads, BeepBeep67 is the runner king, 32 pairs alone in 2018!!! Don’t know what his total runner accumulation stands at now.

    Adidas you say, thanks.

I like that the Brooks are heavy. Will have a nose though.

    Sorry P.

Let us know how you get on if you do try something new... over on the right thread of course, sorry P :)

I have only one pair for running in my new Asics gel kayano 25 actually I am still breaking them in they are so comfortable but I noticed at first it felt like my toes got a little numb but that might have been my socks 1000 mile ones I am loving them :D

I was wearing mizino wave inspire 14 I got them while I was not able to run I found them very wide I had to wear thick socks with them for running and while the heel drop was perfect for my Achilles, I am wondering if they caused my Tibalias ( Post Tip) problems when I started back running within 2 weeks I was hobbling and had to go to physio I blamed the softer ground I was running on the time! but I used them for one run last week and my arches were very sore when I finished so I do wonder now:confused:

My favourite runners I have tried lately was Hoka One one atari 2 pity the heel drop is so low maybe someday I can
    try them again

Dare I add in trail runners :D

Oh and if I remember when I was training for DCM 17 I had a pair of Addidas ultra boost and if I tied the laces too tight they really hurt the outside of my feet I would have to stop and take them off for a minute.

Nike Epic React Flyknit: For steadier road runs. Need a second pair as i'm too precious about the white ones I have! Will probably replace the Pegasus with these and just use Pegasus for easy runs.

    With apologies Paul :)

J - How'd you find the Epic Reacts? I'm tempted to buy a pair on Sportshoes.com - €87 quid at the moment - all the reviews are quite good for these.

    Lifted from my own log.......

    Sun: 24k Relaxed: 1:47:16 @4:28/km
Spent the first couple of kms lamenting the fact I was having to do a LR in the afternoon, focusing on the fact that i hate doing LR's later in the day.....by 10k I was wondering if I should do ALL my long runs in the afternoon :) was cruising out there, only good vibes on this one, 1:34 Half felt effortless, something which I still struggle to get my head around....Wore the Epic Reacts for this one, Jesus they are just beautiful to run in, nothing I've worn really compares to them.

    :)

No apologies. As I said I could talk runners all day. Jesus lads ye have me tempted to go with a pair of epic reacts or zoom streak now

They are beautiful to run in but word of caution, rubbish if the surface is anyway icy. Ran in them this morning on icy paths and I resembled a bad bad ice skater trying to stay upright while I was running. Otherwise a great shoe.

Yep I was going to add that kicker.....dicey in the wet conditions alright. As for the Zoom Streaks.....they're just beautiful to race in.....the Claw races in them afaik :)

So if you had to choose between the zoom streak or the epic react which way would you go? Asking for a friend

I’d give the Reacts a big thumbs up, from what you say you prefer a narrow runner, they tick that box. Plus the cushioning is superb on them, great bounce. Granted what I said earlier is a minus but I knew that & should have worn my Pegasus this morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,583 ✭✭✭Swashbuckler

The only think that's putting me off is I didn't react all that well to the Pegasus 35s previously ie maybe Nike aren't for me . And the zoom streak are getting major kudos from a couple of people I know. Would love to hear a like for like comparison

I would, I don’t wear racers though. Maybe Johnny could give a more impartial answer on that one.

They're very different. I wouldn't race in the Epic Reacts........now if you don't race in racers they'd be fine. My mate who went sub 3 in Rotterdam paced another buddy of mine to sub 3:30 in DCM and he wore a pair of Epic Reacts, said they felt great, but that was just a long run for him really. They'd be too much shoe for me in a race.....Barry, I'd definitely choose them over my Pegasus if I had to choose a pair to run a marathon in.
As for the Streak, am I right in saying that you've ran in the Adidas Adios Boost? Well I've raced all distances in both the Streak and the Adios and there's no comparison for me. Streak just feels light, cushioned & comfortable, i never got that with the Adios. They're pretty similar in weight as well afaik.

Enjoying the discussion here lads. I'm just wondering if any of ye wear support/ structured shoes? I do and I'm not sure what my options are in lighter/ racier shoes are. Would I be ok in neutral shoes for 5k races and sessions?

Ran Köln & DCM in the same pair three weeks apart then had to retire them!!! Use Pegasus up to HM, my “racers”.

Adidas Adizero Tempo Sean, mixture of structure and cushioning. Had 3 pairs of these over the years and loved them.

I don't, but my first pair of racers were Brooks St5's which were a but more supportive than a lot of racers. They were described to me as a nice intro to a racer. They're discontinued now and I'm not sure the Asteria were a like for like replacement.

I think Nike do a Speed Rival racer which might have a bit more support. Not sure on that one though...

Thanks. I know a lighter shoe is in reality not going to be worth much more in terms of time but I would like to try something different to Adrenaline's and Kayano for the shorter stuff.

Apologies to P for this hijack. I wear NB1500 v2 as my main stability racer, speed work, and tempos shoe. But I'll also wear adios 3 for speed work on the track and races under 10km. I think its okay to use a natural shoe in these circumstances but I'm not a expert :pac:

Sorry to add I bought a pair of Brooks asteria recently they are a stability racing shoe but to soon to recommend them yet as I've barely wore them. I do all my easy runs in stability shoes...

You'd be surprised the difference it can make, even mentally, to train in a heavier shoe and race in a much lighter shoe.

To answer your original question the adizero I use don't have much support. Same with the Nike flex rn. Those are pretty much my go to race runners. I'd like another pair hence the temptation to go with the zoom streak.

I get your point about the mental benefit alright. At the same time I'm forever reminded by a comment made to me by the infamous (in golf circles anyway!) Bobby Browne when I asked him which of two drivers he had on display would be best for me. His reply....spend 100 on the driver and the other 250 on lessons!! The best of gear is for marginal gains but good lifestyle and training is worth far far more.

Oh absolutely. Completely agree. But if you were driving down the Pacific Coast Highway it's a lot more fun in a Lamborghini than a Toyota Yaris. Haha
