    You're an anarchist :eek::pac:

I wish I was so political, I just get bored fast

had to take a break there and in my contemplation came up with a list of games my neighbours hate me playing, in order of loudness
    battlefield 4 (seriously fk u)
    MW2
Bloodborne (I'm looking at you undead giant)

probably my 3 favourite games, go figure

After having a discussion about the super Mario brothers surname, it reminded me of the movie (as they confirmed Mario was the surname but Nintendo denied it for years claiming they had no surname) and how much I loved it as a kid. I know it's widely hated but I have great memories of it. Looked up the trivia on IMDB and some of this stuff is amazing, like Hoskns and Leguizamo would regularly get drunk just to get through filming and Tom hanks was considered for Luigi but his 2 recent films had tanked so they didn't see him as a draw. Cheech (from cheech and Chong) was offered the role of Mario but turned it down. Just imagine Cheech and Tom Hanks instead :pac:

The Gaming Historian did a great episode on that disaster of a film:

Miyamoto came out and said their surname was Mario during the 30th anniversary.

Playing Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (PS3) tonight. Played it when it first released in 2008.

This game is kicking my ass on level 2 normal difficulty. I died at least a dozen times around the latter part of the level. All these years of Call of Duty casual play have really watered down my playing ability. The AI is decent enough here and unpredictable.

Any people here using a PS4 controller on the PC?
Trying to use it (with DS4windows, all properly installed on Win7), computer recognizes the controller and it does kind of work, but the buttons are incorrect and games seem to be picking up 2 controllers which causes the controller to skip over menu options etc. I.e unplayable.

    Am I missing something?

All joking aside I've no idea. I tried using the DS4 on the PC once, more just out of curiosity really, as I had the 360 controller anyway. It seemed to work fine, didn't notice any issues with menus and such.

I actually have the Xbox One wireless already :P

Just curious really. Thought it was as easy as plugging in and going! :o

I was thinking of getting my friends PS4 controller before buying one to test it on my PC, did you find a solution to this?

Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to go at it since, but I'm sure it's something I'm doing or have done wrong. Will try again tonight and see if I can get it working.

I’ve definitely gotten it to work before after a bit of tweaking, although it’s been a few years so couldn’t tell you the specifics now I’m afraid - DS4windows was definitely the one that worked.

That said, ultimately given that it caused quirks in some individual games and just those extra few steps involved (plus needing to update the software) I ultimately just bought a 360 pad as it’s so much easier and more reliable in the long-term. They’re pretty dirt cheap, so definitely worth considering.

On a very different note, I’ve had a quick whirl of both A Hat In Time and Yooka Laylee recently after they came in Humble Monthly bundles. I know the latter is the better known game, but christ the gulf in quality between the two is astounding... and not in Yooka’s favour.

Yooka just feels cheap and half-baked, almost like a mod or fan project. Just lots of under-realised mechanics and idea. A Hat In Time, in contrast, is full of life and energy, with a constant eagerness to explore fun new ideas. While it obviously falls short of the polish and overall quality of a Nintendo title, it aims high and hits a surprising amount of marks - extremely pleasant to play overall. Just a really interesting contrast between the two games, especially given the gulf in budget and profile between the two (if Kickstarter funding is anything to go by).

Try using Input Mapper for DS4. Thats what I use regularly and don't have any problems.

I'm going to assume you had the same issue as i had, ds4 was working fine for me then all of a sudden recently it kept failing to work, a red error message would display at the bottom of the ds4 window.

This is the fix i followed and it worked for me:
    1. Have your PS4 controller plugged in
    2. have DS4 closed
    3. Open task manager
    4. click on the services tab
    5. find "NVContainerLocalSystem" in the list
    6. right click on it and click "Stop"
    7. Open DS4 (red error message should be gone)
    8. And then right click on "NVContainerLocalSystem" and hit "Start"

That should fix it for you, you will have to do that every time you reboot. And likely every time you close DS4 and open it again..

Now if you're not getting the red error message like me, its likely a different issue. I would recommend removing DS4 completely and downloading the latest version again and following the set up to the letter.

If i'm not mistaken, shouldn't the DS4 be natively supported in Steam now? Don't know about the rest of them, but I heard there was official support for it.

It's supported by Steam Link alright but not sure about steam itself.

I prefer the ps4 controller and had one initially for my pc, but it's just way too much of a pain in the ass and far too finicky, so I switched to the Xbox 360 one.

Steam supports it too. I've had time I've been charging my DS4 on laptop while playing on the PS4, i'd hit the PS button for something on the PS4 and Steam big picture starts up. Lot of Options, even lets you mess with the light bar.

What? so i dont need to use the ds4windows program now? i just plug in my ps4 and steam reads and sorts everything?

To use it wirelsssly you'd probably need pair it by holding down share and the PS button and go onto devices in control panel -> Bluetooth and pairing it there. You'd need a Bluetooth dongle of course.

Saw this on reddit. Shadow of Tomb Raider lets you adjust the combat, exploration and puzzle difficulty independently.

Sounds like a great idea, and something I'd like to see more in games. I'd be putting up the difficulty for the exploration and puzzle at least!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,408 ✭✭✭✭J. Marston

Really like that idea, especially for the exploration. Highlighted ledges are so overused in games. It isn't a challenge or exciting anymore scaling dangerous cliffs or buildings, you're just on auto-pilot really. Also, if you're searching for something, Detective vision/Witcher senses/Focus makes it trivial.

    Normal for combat.
    Hard for exploration.
Easy "Hard" for puzzles. Don't judge me.

If you're not on Playstation I'd just go digital.

Been playing a lot f La Mulana 2 recently and it could well be my game of the year.

Have a notebook open for notes, not making the same mistake I did with the first game.

The puzzles are much more streamlined from the first game, which were a little too obtuse, yet it manages to be vague enough that it still retains the feeling of actually being an Indiana Jones style archaeologist exploring the ruins.

Evil Within 2 is a lot different from the first. EW1 was linear and chapter to chapter but although I'm only on chapter 3, EW2 seems to be semi open world with side missions, lots more crafting and dialogue options. I'm half expecting an Ubisoft tower to climb soon!

It's still good and creepy though, just very different.
