I’d actually almost be inclined to call RDR2 the worst game I played this generation. But in its defence, I did play 30 minutes of Mighty No 9, so it’ll have to settle for worst game I completed.

As a modern games player you likely have a pile of games on your backloggery. Practically every one of them is better than the piece of **** that is rdr2.

Don't waste your time with it and play something good

But but but...Edge Magazine have it as one of the games of the generation!

I loved the game. It starts slow but gets better. A lot better. The story and voice acting is brilliant. I had to watch a YouTube video or two to figure out fast travel access and some other mechanics as this is not obvious. It just looks and sounds stunning with the right tech. Xbox one x is like a piece of live art especially on a decent screen. Epic landscapes and some stunning interiors. There are some gorgeous music tracks in there. Mountain hymn, Cruel cruel world, American Venom ... It's a slow burn game. Conjours up the wild and slowly being "civilised" west so well. It's like stepping back in time.

Having played around 75hrs of Monster Hunter World the past 2 weeks: I finally get why people say it's the combat Dark Souls tries to be.

I loved every minute of RDR 2. The only issue I had was being forced to walk slowly around the camp.

I’m glad they did that though .made my appreciate how good the camp was & work it into it alone .

I assumed there would be some pc mods at this stage to remove the horrible unfun mechanics in rdr2. Maybe have a look on nexus mods.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,084 ✭✭✭✭Kirby

What it does good, it does really good, but yeah, the "realism" gets in the way of the fun. I did finish it, but it took effort and I traded it in straight away afterwards, and haven't even been inclined to go back to it at any stage, the online parts just aren't for me. One thing that never improved while I had it (and not sure if it's still the same) is the horrible lack of fast travel.

You can fast travel, and could at launch. Open your camp and put up your tent (you can do it anywhere) and select fast travel. You can go to any town you've been to.

You can also do this at signposts or stagecoaches but it easier and faster to just put your tent up.

Red dead 2 is a mess, the control system is cumbersome and broken and the game forces you to repeat mundane tasks over and over and over again. I spent 12 hours playing it and I have never regretted playing a game more. For me the game represents a reminder of why gameplay is far more important than everything else.

That's what I did. Put up the tent, brewed some coffee and had some food before getting sleep.

Haha. You sound like you were out in the wild west yourself.

The only thing I didn't like about the game was him getting weaker.(I know it was part of the story) but I used to food from alligator meat and some herbs which restored health and dead eye. It was useless when he was sick.

    Damn fine cup of coffee!

Yep, food, drink, sleep, fast travel.

I never managed to hang around the gangs campsite long enough to get that stew that was always cooking; but never ready.

I'm playing GTA 5 the first time. I'm in it for the online. I've been looking at the Quick Jobs on the phone. The list is not very populated, will more open up somehow? Are there other good co-op missions I am missing out on?

Trying to get The Grand Casino Heist done has been interesting. The first time it was set to easy, however my team mates were too too slow and we got gassed in the vault. The second time the settings were way up hard and a hacker got tired minding us. The cops had one shot abilitys.

I think as you level up you get more phonecalls to ignore.

So much stuff in that game online nowadays.

The quick missions are playlists, so it's mostly grouped by what's recent or what's a special event that week.
For heists I think they have the casino and doomsday as 2 separate options, and then all the rest as a single group. You pick that you never know what you get within the heist.
Missions, adversary, contacts are all there.
Some stuff isn't matchmade and that stuff won't be on the phone at all you need to be manually invited.

Until Thursday all handguns are free, so if you don't own it yet go buy the Up-n-Atomizer. It shoots a shockwave that's very handy for when you get a vehicle stuck especially a mission critical one. Also lets you knock down fences without ramming them with a car.

Thinking: how is cloud gaming ever going to replace getting a shiny new kick ass console at this time of the year ?
Also thinking: I wish I was getting a shiny new kick ass console at this time of the year :)

There are people out there who don't realise what's being released this week and next.
Real time ray tracing, 60 FPS, 4K HDR means nothing to them.

Why is their partner buying a new xbox yoke ? Haven't they got one already.
Why are they so excited about it ?
Why do they say it's an xmas present for the kids ?

    :)

Kotaku embarrassing themselves again. This time on a PS5 review. They just can't help themselves from inserting their BS political beliefs into everything. Does anyone actually read that hot garbage? They are obsessed.

    An excerpt;
But I’d be remiss to ignore all the reasons not to be excited for the PlayStation 5.

The world is still reeling under the weight of the covid-19 pandemic. There are more Americans out of work right now than at any point in the country’s history, with no relief in sight. Our health care system is an inherently evil institution that forces people to ration life-saving medications like insulin and choose suicide over suffering with untreated mental illness.

As I’m writing this, it looks very likely that Joe Biden will be our next president. But it’s clear that the worst people aren’t going away just because a new old white man is sitting behind the Resolute desk—well, at least not this old white man. Our government is fundamentally broken in a way that necessitates radical change rather than incremental electorialism.

The harsh truth is that, for the reasons listed above and more, a lot of people simply won’t be able to buy a PlayStation 5, regardless of supply. Or if they can, concerns over increasing austerity in the United States and the growing threat of widespread political violence supersede any enthusiasm about the console’s SSD or how ray tracing makes reflections more realistic. That’s not to say you can’t be excited for those things—I certainly am, on some level—but there’s an irrefutable level of privilege attached to the ability to simply tune out the world as it burns around you.

Wtf does any of that have to do with reviewing a console? Utter nonsense adding that in.

33m unemployed in the states in May. 240k dead now, dunno what the figure is now for unemployment but probably high.

You can see why he is depressed. Suicide rates up all over the world

Now is the perfect time for a new console. It keeps us off the street/pub/church and helps us isolate!

What is the value of a PS4 500GB with a single controller if I was to sell it and replace with a PS5?

I see gamestop offering 200 euro for a 1TB PS4 but I think thats store credit?

It might end up going to childrens hospital like my old xbox 360 did

He's not unemployed, he's employed to write articles and review for games and gaming consoles. A form of entertainment and escapism from the BS. He's the definition of an entitled twat who has no idea of what real hardship is.

His political beliefs and Debbie Downer attitude has no place in an article like that but hey it's par for the course for Kotaku even pre Covid.

I don't read Kotaku apart from whatever is linked to here by people but I can get on board with what he's saying. America is in such disarray that the launch of some new consoles would seem like such a non-issue to a lot people who have far more pressing concerns to deal with. I can't see what the problem is with mentioning that in their article.

I see nothing wrong with it. Just pointing out how little a new console launch actually matters when you consider just what is going on in the world around us. I for one can't feel excited for it and it just seems so weird that this expensive entertainment box is getting released now when they world is the way it is. I can't help but find it a weird juxtaposition. It's such a weird console launch and one I can't really find much enthusiasm for.

There's enough people covering the politics and other nonsense. He's part of a booming industry. His political beliefs have no place in an article like that.

Kotaku were doing this pre covid as well, it's not new. They insert politics into everything.
