i was thinking that myself. After the news in the last few days that the CO, XO and senior enlisted man on the Fitzgerald have had their careers ended you would think captains would be a bit more vigilant.

Francona said no matter what the tanker did, the faster, more-nimble US destroyer should have been able to avoid a collision.
"How does a state-of-the-art Navy destroyer equipped with multiple radar systems and communications gear with a full bridge watch not see, detect and evade a 30,000 ton slow-moving (10 knots) behemoth?" Francona asked.

    Says it all really.

    Sad (probable) loss of life.

No automatic proximity alert, no radar?

ISIS will be watching this closely.

Seems very strange this is the second within a short space of time. I wonder if we are getting the full details?

With the American's wanting to blame anything and everything on the Russian's it's hard to tell. Could be just tin foil hat nonsense.

Jaysus they have a war ship named after one of the biggest traitors in American history.

Hopefully the missing sailors are found safe and sound although it doesnt sound too good.

That thought entered my head too. But in such a congested shipping lane, would it not have affected more ships? It would have to be targeted to affect just one or two ships, and would the jamming device not have to be located near where the incident occurred.

Either way it very odd how 2 US Navy vessels collide with 2 tankers within a short space of time. I did see in a CNN article this morning where someone reported that the ships steering stopped working for a time before the crash.

We should defend our way of life to an extent that any attempt on it is crushed, so that any adversary will never make such an attempt in the future.

They dont rely on GPS to avoid collisions with other ships.

I can understand that. But it wouldn't necessarily have to be a GPS jammer or spoofer. Could be something else. Would it even be possible to hack into a ships systems?

the new scientist article specifically referred to gps spoofing so i was responding to that. Not sure how the russians could hack the Mark 1 Eyeball.

Interesting alright. You'd imagine these ships have someone on the bridge 24/7 keeping an eye out.

    Elaborate?

Basically swept the Israeli attack on the US Liberty under the carpet.

That's a bit vague. All I see that he did was convene a Court of Inquiry, which isn't exactly hiding the fact? Also, how is that treason?

You should ask Americans if they consider the McCains (the ship is also named after his father) traitors. I don't think your view will be very well received.

Probably because very few of them know about Israel's attack on US forces.

    It's quite possible .

But you can't spoof human eyes and ears there should have been multiple watch outs on duty ,as well as the bridge fully manned

but yet somehow you know about it. They're not doing a very good job of hiding it are they?

Not to derail the thread but Israel knowingly opened fire on a US warship which included napalm attacks, killing 34 servicemen and injuring 171. McCain oversaw an inquiry and alongside the then president Lyndon Johnson somehow came to the conclusion it was an accident.

"It was not the responsibility of the court to rule on the culpability of the attackers, and no evidence was heard from the attacking nation"

Right, so it doesn't say that. And next post, please provide proof that whatever you think McCain Sir did constitutes treason.

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.

Yeah, no. Treason has a specific meaning, you can't just make it up. Whoever is Americas enemy is for the government of America to decide, not you.

If somebody knowingly attacked you would you call them an enemy or a friend?

Mmm, usually, I would agree, but Israel and America is a little bit more complex than that. Again, the US government called them allies, so there's not much to discuss. I won't defend Israel here btw, that incident was f'ed up.

So news broke there last week that the USS John S McCain was involved in a collision with a merchant ship. 10 Sailors have are missing.

This is the 4th incident this year (According to RTE news) involving the US Navy ships colliding with Civilian shipping traffic.

    https://www.rte.ie/news/2017/0823/899390-us-navy/

USS Fitzgerald, almost sank off the coast of Japan after colliding with a Philippine container ship on 17 June
USS Antietam ran aground near Yosuka, Japan
USS Champlain collided with a South Korean fishing vessel in May

And now the US Navy have relieved the Admiral in charge of the 7th Fleet. (Joseph Aucoin)

The US claim they are "helping to protect freedom of navigation" in the Area.

However to me it looks more like that US is bullying/harassing Civilian traffic in the area.
    OR
Something else it going on, It's to coincidental.

This isn't happening anywhere else in the world, so why is it happening here all of a sudden?
Is this to do with NK or China's claim on the entire South China Sea?

Probably statistics more so than coincidence.
Higher traffic of US naval vessels in sector = higher probability of collisions.

This are being claimed as accidents, which I don't think is correct.

I think something else is as play here.

We aren't hearing any of the Chinese Propaganda about this.
Normally they'd be up in Arms about this (Given it was the 4th Collision) but nothing... not a peep!

    Don't you think that's unusual?

    Agreed

Bit the South China Sea is one of the busiest shipping areas in the world.
Why is no one else colliding?
