Boards is checking browsers before logging me in - Are we under attack?!?!?
Mod Note for Explanation - thanks johnny_ultimate.
It's Cloudflare, used by many, many websites these days to protect against DDoS attacks, large traffic spikes and the like.

I would suggest that if you see it but are still able to get in and use the site as normal... then Cloudflare has done its job :)

It does appear to be a temporary thing during a surge.

The day will come when a copy of your passport and pre approval for every post from a board of mods will be the only way to engage with boards.

For some, that wouldn't be a bad thing.

    What does that matter?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Oh, so it's not just me! I was bewildered by that too - seems to be a DDOS anti-surge type thing.

I'll leave this thread be for a bit, as it might answer other peoples' confusion about it, but it's not really an AH type thread, so if it all goes technical or people are wanting the whys of it or whatever, it may be moved to Help Desk.

This is getting very annoying, it seems that if boards.ie is open but inactive for more than a few minutes it'll check for fleas.

I have to agree, it is.

It's also done something to using the "back" key to get back out of a thread - now needs multiple presses to get you back to the home page list.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

I've had it since last night, can't post at all using Chrome, get an invalid thread ID error message after the Cloud Flare check every time I try so have to use a different browser.
