Inzaghi confirmed as new Inter coach. Good appointment in my view (obviously would have been better for Conte to stay). Sassuolo look like they are about to hire Marco Giampaolo as well.........absolutely horrific appointment.

    Simone I assume

I just watched The Divine Ponytail (The Baggio Movie on Netflix). Anyone know if their portrayal of the man is accurate ? I watched a lot of Seria A back around the time of Baggio and remember the incredible footballer but this movie didn't paint him in a great light personally imo. He just moaned for the entire thing, only cracking a smile when being told that an entire team was going to be built around him and that the players couldn't believe how lucky they were to be on his team.

I get that certain mercurial talents need a team built around them and can have an ego etc but without knowing I get the impression that they really over emphasized his need to be loved a bit too much.

The only personal thing I know about Baggio is he was in somuch pain with his knees in his career he wanted to kill himself

If they had emphasized how he struggled through the pain to get to the good times it'd have made him a more sympathetic character instead you did get him moaning that he couldn't go through his injury without every really being told how bad the injuries / pain were and then get a quick training montage as he came back at the end of which he was immediately moaning again because his team wanted to loan him out or because the national team wouldn't select him.

They did him an incredible disservice in many ways by only showing his hardships. you just saw him struggling (moaning really) about his hard situation, usually without elaborating why it was so bad and then boom he is super successful and the best player in Italy but you don't see him enjoy that because in stead it's time for him to miss the world cup final penalty etc.

A Letter from Baggio to Borgonovo
Following the release of Chantal Borgonovo’s book, Una Vita in Gioco (A Life in Play), which discusses her life with former Fiorentina striker Stefano Borgonovo, Roberto Baggio has written an open letter to his friend, first published in Il Venerdi di Republica.

Baggio and Borgonovo spent just a single season together in Florence, finishing as Serie A’s fourth and fifth highest scorers respectively, and leading Sven-Goran Eriksson’s Gigliati to a UEFA Cup finish. Though their time in Florence together was brief, the pair formed a friendship that would endure the test of time. In 2008, Borgonovo was diagnosed with ALS, and attended a testimonial match between Fiorentina and another former club AC Milan with Baggio at his side. As his condition worsened Borgonovo lost the ability to move, and tragically passed in 2013.

Below is Baggio’s letter, translated in full.

How do you get BT Sport without having Sky?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,542 ✭✭✭dor83

You can get the BT pack on NowTV if you don't have a Sky or Vodafone TV package, there tend to be offers on fairly regularly where you get it half price for a few months so might be a cheaper option.

The action on BT Sport this weekend:

Who do we see winning Serie A this season? I can't look past Juve with the sales Inter have had to make, especially if Ronaldo sticks around, which looks to be the case. Interested to see how Milan fare because I like the business they've done. I'd like to see Atalanta in the mix too.

I'd say Juventus should be favourites atm but they wouldn't want to pick up to many injuries especially in defense as they have a bit of a lack of depth in the full backs. Locatelli should be a good signing in midfield. Milan especially if they sign Florenzi and an attacking midfielder such as Vlasic from CSKA will be a threat. Can't have Inter atm, Dzeko was/is a good striker but that Inter team last year was built around Lukaku's strength and power and Dzeko quite simply doesn't offer that. Losing Hakimi is also a blow as he got some crucial goals and assists for them at times. Atalanta have only lost Romero so far and Demiral is a good replacement so I expect them to do well again so long as Zapata doesn't leave for Inter which was rumoured at one stage. Zapata would be very hard to replace for them. Abraham and Shomurodov are interesting signings for Roma. Shomurodov looked very good for Genoa at the tail end of last season. Napoli if they can keep Oshimen fit will be up there in the battle for the Champions League spots.

With regards to relegation its hard to see Venezia and Salernitana surviving. Simy is a good signing for Salernitana but the rest of that squad is very weak. 3rd team to go down should be an interesting battle, Empoli got promoted and usually have some good youngsters to bring through so they will be worth a watch. Spezia are they type of club that you see sometimes struggle after a good first season in the top flight, Genoa and Cagliari are usually just clinging on at the end of each season and Genoa have lost some important players from last year but I think that Udinese might be a surprise choice to go down this season. They've been struggling for a few years now and losing De Paul is a huge blow to them, the players they've been linked with (Isaac Success from Watford) don't inspire confidence and there isn't much young talent coming through at the club.

I think Milan need one or two more before the window ends.

I can't get excited about this season. Inter disintegrating immediately after finally breaking Juve's dominance has just put a massive dampener on it. That and the fact that Juventus actually have a manager this year. It'll be a duck shoot for them.

Plenty of goals on the opening day. I watched the Inter game earlier and it couldn't have gone much better. Calhanoglu and Dzeko on the scoresheet. Thought the commentators were getting a bit carried away as Nigel Spackman mentioned it could turn out like how Arsene Wenger took over at Arsenal and took a defensively solid team and improved them. Still early days really, but it was encouraging.

Yeah, Inter looked good but Genoa were really poor.

I thought Atalanta looked sluggish but they grinded out the win.

I only saw the goals in the Lazio game, but they looked impressive.

Yesterday really wet the appetite for the season ahead.

The ending to that Juventus match wasn't hilarious at all. Not one bit 👀 Poor hunchbacks.

Watched Milan's win over Sampdoria which was a good contest. Maignan did well on his debut.

Is there a highlights package show being shown at any time on BT like they used have on premier? Cant seem to find one all week on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,374 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

I heard James Richardson had a show but I don't know what time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,059 ✭✭✭Smell the glove

Yeah I thought he said in the build up to their main match on a Sunday they will show the weekends goals but I was wondering will there be a proper standalone hour long higlights show like before is all. Thanks for the reply 👍🏻

Caught the highlights of Inter's win over Verona. Hell of a debut from Correa. Comes on in the 74th minute and bags 2 goals. It's been a very good start for Inzaghi.

I think Ronaldo leaving Juve should make the title race that bit more competitive. I fancied Juve for the title, and still do, but I think it could be closer now. Of course they could still add one or two before the window shuts...
